Purchased a zenith replacement carburator for my h3. Have been trying for a week to get the carb and govenor set right to no avail. Paid a lot for the caburator which seems to run good on its own but hooked up to govenor no work. Should I try rebuilding the old marvel scheber which is an odd number. I've yet to find a kit for it.

I also have an H3, a '61 model. I took the Marvel Schebler off and tried cleaning it but couldn't get it to run so I ordered a replacement from Steiner and got a New Zenith. I haven't put it on yet, I'm going to drill out the Zenith manifold bolt holes to match the Schebler, so I'm interested to know what you find out. Good luck, I'll be watching your thread.

Also, I ordered a rebuild kit for the Marvel Schebler from Steiner but the main jet was different in the kit they sent. I wasn't going to piece it together so ordered the replacement carburetor.

Could you please explain what you mean by 'runs good' until governor is hooked up. Do you mean it idles good, but won't provide power when you load it?

If this is a "universal" carb, the throttle shaft and its lever are adjustable ?? I think you need to synchronize the governor to the carb. ENGINE OFF. Hand throttle wide open. Disconnect the carb to governor arm link rod above the generator. The length of this link rod should be such that it will easily slide right back into the hole on the governor arm. Do whatever it takes to make a fully open throttle butterfly link rod to slip right into a fully open governor arm. Understand ?? It is basic governor to carburetor synching.

Do NOT try and bend that governor cross arm !!! The link rod itself has enough kinks and bends in it that can be straightened to get the length you may need. A universal fit carb should have the throttle shaft lever adjustable, not needing to change the engines parts to synch it. For a novice to try and bend that cross arm can turn out badly. Don't do it. I've never had to bend a cross arm in 50 yrs. Always changed the link rod length.

Still trying to get the zenith carb. syc. with the governor. Opened up governor and carefully checked everything. Nothing wrong with it. Checked all rod linkage and everything ok. I've got to the point where I understand how and why governor works. The problem is the rod from carb is just not long enough to properly reach the cross rod and the carb linkage is not flexible enough to make it happen. I'm going to cut rod from carburetor in two pieces and make it adjustable for length. Tired of bending rod.
