Got myself a non running FTL 20 off face book and have been busy trying to get it going for a few days. I’m new to working on older machines and I’m having trouble locating any info. I have good spark and I believe hood compression (my gauge isn’t in good shape but all the pressures were even). If I hold the primer down and give the fuel solenoid straight power it stumbles a bit like it wants to start but even with starter fluid it doesn’t run. I want to make sure the plug wires are in the right spot but have no reference material. The previous owner did some work, look like a new cap so maybe he got a couple cables wrong. He also replaced the vaporizer which I believe is working right but have never messed with propane stuff before. Any help with the wires would be appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to the forum! Do you have any idea how long the fork lift has been sitting since last running? Being parked for extended time, the propane components have a tendency to get gummy and sticky and will not function until they are taken apart and cleaned. Propane units are not as responsive to ether as we would wish. I suspect the problem has to do with fuel not getting through. Please let us know how you make out.

Well I got in touch with the people at WEHS and they have been extremely helpful, they are sending me a service manual and gave me a rough idea of the age of the engine anyway 66-67. I checked compression and I have 90-80-80-70 on the 4 cylinders which I think is good enough looking at the 6 to 1 compression ratio these engines have but maybe someone will know better than me. I have a new carburetor coming that I found on eBay that was roughly the same price as a rebuild kit. Can anyone give me pointers on tuning the carb once it’s on the machine?

Well I finally got it running after finding plug wires in the wrong spot, a bad cap and rotor and points that needed to be adjusted.  But it was either missing or I misplaced the small spring on the throttle linkage on the carb, also if I leave the governor rod attached it wants to rev to the moon.  I had to head back to work before I could continue on it but those are the current issues along with a coolant leak which I hope is just a hose.
