I see in the online news that TSC is buying 81 of Orschein's stores, some other company is buying the other 84. I've never been in one of the stores but assume it is similar to TSC? |

Yes, very similar to TSC. Had one close to me years ago but closed up. Sad, cuz TSC is on the other side of town. Orschlein was lower price on many items I bought

Yep, they started out as a hardware store in NE Missouri. They would go into small towns and fill quite a void, was our go to for batteries, grease and oil. They took over a lot of abandoned WalMarts and like others, figured out there was more money to be made peddling horse supplies so disc blades, cultivator shovels and such are almost gone. They are still my source for Key jeans, shirts and overalls.

The biggest difference I have noticed since TSC bought Orscheln's is hefty price increases.
It is now less expensive to buy from Atwoods. Edited by Clay - 12 Oct 2022 at 12:51pm |

I believe this all started back in Fe of 2021. They may be phasing it in different parts of the country at different times. Obviously if they are too close together and most of the time you know which one will survive. Too bad, I actually preferred Orscheln's in most cases. I guess the owners wanted to cash out.

Ones closest to here will become TSC, Washington MO a Bomgaars, the ones in Jefferson City and Fulton a Buchheit. Been to Buchheit down south, never cared for them, not been to a Bomgaars, and have less to do with TSC since years ago had a bad day in one. May become a strictly Online or our local Carquest and MFA more substantive supporter.

Great more stores with empty pegs in The-Shelves-are-Clear corporation. There are 3 TSC stores in my county alone and at least 4 others in less than 40 miles from me. It's always a crap shoot if what I want will be on the shelf, but most likely not. Most of what the TSC stores have can be brought at Wally World. And they wonder why so many people shop Amazon. There is a Family Farm an Fleet in Hagerstown and some other farm store in Hanover, PA Both just under the 40 miles from me and they both make any of the TSC stores look like a flea market stall. I wish that Agri-Supply would put a store in this area.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

TSC must be tone deaf. Can't keep customers, can't keep employees, charge twice as much for the same exact chicom junk(right down to the STIC number) as the Harbor Freight across the parking lot. Just keep changeing the floor plan guys that'll fix it.

Bomgaars bought 93 of the Orscheln stores, can read the article on the Sioux City IA newspaper on line. Bomgaars also bought alot of the old Shopco stores. with Bomgaars purchase, they will get another distibution center somewhere in MO. that gives them 3 of those.

I wind up bouncing around between Atwood's and TSC here. Both have well-managed and horribly-managed stores within driving distance of me. Orscheln's tend to be out of my way too much. I do miss having Rural King around, like back when I was in IL. Guess I will see what happens with the Orscheln's around here.

Bomgaars out of Sioux City, IA is buying the rest of the Orschelns Stores. Now they'll be in 14 or 15 states.

We have a TSC close to home. I always say I'm the only customer buying tractor supplies. Like Paul said Agri Supply is a good place to go. We have one about 2 hours away. I pick up my brothers and we make a day of it. Thanks

Comparing the local Bumgaars to Orschlins, you cant get any worse than the local Bumgaars. No one in the store has a clew, they can't tell the difference between twine and rivets. Our 2 TSC has them beat by miles.

I agree Tom....they (well about everyone does) hire anyone that needs a job. most don't know what a tractor looks like. I went in one day and asked for some cow magnets...took 5 employees to find them! most just gave me that deer in the headlights look! usually the females in them stores know more than the males!

Any chance a place like Central Tractor will come along again? I don't know about the pet food and clothing, but they had tractor parts. |

When I get back I plan to make a run and pick up 3 more pairs, I
got 3 a couple years ago when I heard they were selling and afraid I
couldn't get any more, I lost one glove so I only have 1 spare pair
left. Now if I get there and you jokers bought them all up I'll never
tell you my secret goodies again. They are heavy duty and the seams hold out too.![]() |

Thanks. I wondered about that. We had a cow get hardware probably about 50 years ago. Only one I know of, but boy do I hate it if I drop a staple or wire scrap and can't find it!!!
