Does anyone have any recommendations on brand and model of brake controller? I had a Tekonsha Voyager in my 99 F150 that lasted 11 years and when it failed I replaced it with the same model. It has only lasted a few months and now only works by using the manual override. No fun driving in traffic. When working properly it is a good controller. Thanks a in advance.

I still prefer Tekonsha, dealt with other models other people had me install and will not use others.

I've got both, whole box full ( pulls from scrapped trucks...) somewhere in the garage. Got bored one day, designed and built my own.One of those 'napkin drawings' that actually worked and then some.

The old fashioned ones that have a hydraulic brake line to activate them are the only ones I trust. As far as I know they are not made any more. When I got a 93 truck, I was told by trailer dealers, that I could not use this type due to the ABS (All Brakes Suck). After reading the owners manual for the 93 it says that any connected controller could not have a piston displacement more than 0.10 in/3. Any controller I've ever had, the displacement was less than that.
I've had a few different "electronic" controllers and didn't like any of them. Also I've never know of anyone using an electronic controller that didn't have a horror story to tell of when the controller didn't activate the brakes at some point when they were absolutely needed. For my "air braked" truck I got one that has an air line to activate the controller.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Tekonsha is the best around.. They are the standard for the industry... You must have got a bad one, or bad wire joint.......... I would buy another one.

After finally getting through customer no service I talked with one of the Tekonsha technicians. Dan walked me through setting the controller up again and it is working properly.

I had a couple Tecks.--one worked one never did! For me they are just in there and hooked up for decoration ! Cops look,---- everything hooked up------Im on my way down the road! I never go that fast anyway and most of the time not that far. IF I did a road trip then They would need to work.

MODOT has the operator apply the controller with a second agent under the trailer. Pucks ‘click’ as magnets apply all is good, they also do a performance test on breakaway battery application, same magnet click noise expectation.
