I was in a week moment when I took this job on.
Customer complains of no charge and oil leaking. I have found no oil leak but I did find it not charging. I found the battery to be old and garbage. But it still didn't charge. I ordered a new voltage regulator off Amazon for next to nothing for this machine. I hooked it up and at idle I get a steady 12.5-12.6 if I give it just a slight but of throttle it immediately goes up to 13.5 and will go higher if you give it more throttle. Does this seem right,? Polaris sportsman 500 ho 2000 model year I believe |

a car will charge at 14.8 v .... i have seem some even go a little MORE... If it was over 15 v it might effect battery life, but under 15 v should be fine......... It is also possible that your NEW battery is only 90% charge ... and the RATE will drop off after 30 minutes of running.

This charges 12.5 at idle right away. If you idle it up it will go up to 13.5

yep... thats normal... I would not be concerned until your pushing OVER 14.8 v
------------ What voltage should a fully charged 12-volt battery read? 12.6 volts ( this is with the MOTOR NOT RUNNING).. The standard automotive battery in today's vehicles is a 12-volt battery. Each battery has six cells, each with 2.1 volts at full charge. A car battery is considered fully charged at 12.6 volts or higher. When the battery's voltage drops, even a small amount, it makes a big difference in its performance. Edited by steve(ill) - 18 Sep 2022 at 7:08pm |
