 Topic: Rule Decision?

Have a ? regarding decisions on the rules. I'm not "stirring the pot" so to speak, just wanting to know more about the rules of pulling. On a track with a known, marked ,declared distance for a full pull, if a driver passes the full pull distance and exceeds the speed for that class is this a DQ ? or does the distance pulled count as a FP? I do know that going out of bounds after a FP mark that the distance pulled counts. Would this be similar? dan

depends on your local rules. in my area we use NATPA rules and if you go over the speed limit after 75ft mark you are DQ'd. now if your saying the speed horn goes off after the full pull is reached? sounds pretty rare, like a committee decision or rule clarifacation needed. but you could easliy be talking about non antiques so ..... (shrug)

Yessir, I'm referring to the speed horn blowing after the FP distance was exceeded and yes we are talking antiques pulling here. I can find nothing written (yet) which addresses this question.

Judgement call. But who could feel good about a full pull being achieved and then blow the horn and then DQ him ?? That would be wrong. He got the full pull legally.

yeesh, you got speed LIMITs in tractor pulls ? Man that seems 'silly' to me, same as bracket 'drag racing '. Man I gotta be getin old and grouchy, always figgured first/fastest cross the line should be the winner.
OK, if the horn was blown AFTER tractor passed the finish line, the guy won, maybe ? Guess it depends on where the RADAR said he was speeding
?? curious, does anyone shiftgears in these pulls ?

Were you old 33 years ago too? 1989 was the first time I heard of bracket drags. I'm sure they were around long before then. I'm not a fan either, but there are reasons for the way the rules are. One of the biggest reasons is, it lets people drag race without spending 100's of 1000's on the car. You don't have to like it.
The whole idea of a tractor pull, is to have a load close to impossible to pull the full length of the track. When you're loaded down barely making progress, last thing you'd want to do is shift gears!

I had a situation 30 years ago that went like this: three pullers went past 300 feet, so we had a three-way pull off. During the pull off, one of the tractors dropped a weight on the track. The flagman wanted to DQ him totally, meaning he finished LAST or less than last out of a class of 10 tractors. I explained to him that he finishes last in the pull-off, getting third place. How could any rational person think otherwise??

Yes !!! This is antique tractor pulling not drag racing!! Weight balance, speed limits and driving, picking your line and making it happen!! This scenario did happen to me last weekend and I want to know what is proper and legal and fair!! So I really appreciate a constructive and thoughtful response. Any more good stuff??? D
