Ya, I saw that earlier today, dodging traffic and landing on a curve!

A spectacular job.
I can’t help but think the good Lord was watching over those two.

Hauled it off on rollback. HE's lucky! Most times while landing on roads the startled drivers knock the plane around after making a good landing getting thru the wires.

The Good Lord was watching over them. He couldn't have done that on I285 in Atlanta. Those idiots would have run all over him.

the video clip I saw showed the road closed down and the plane taking off, as the narration stated it took off after a mechanic fixed it. must be true, I saw it on the internet!~ LOL

A former boss of mine had to land in a soybean field due to engine problems. Had to have plane pulled out of field, pay farmer for damages, wings removed , plane hauled to airport, reassembled, full FFA inspection on plane before he could fly again.

I found more information, they did indeed put it on a rollback, and moved it to a different road, which they shut down long enough for him to take off.
From what I have read so far, it appears he ran it out of fuel!

Federal Flight Administration . He called in a Mayday to the tower before he landed . The tower contacts FFA with plane identification numbers . Plane cannot fly until signed off . A fellow pilot told him that if just radioed that he was making a quick landing and kept his mouth shut it would not have been an issue.

I just read that they have now arrested the pilot for his landing, guess he ran out of gas and that's why he went down.

I was trained and trained my students to not trust the fuel gauges in an airplane.
They are only certified to read empty.
Time in your tanks.
The Pilot Operating Handbook has charts which the pilot uses to determine how long the engine will run before running out of fuel.
FAR 91.151
§ 91.151 Fuel requirements for flight in VFR conditions.

(a) No person may begin a flight in an airplane under VFR conditions unless (considering wind and forecast weather conditions) there is enough fuel to fly to the first point of intended landing and, assuming normal cruising speed -

(1) During the day, to fly after that for at least 30 minutes; or

(2) At night, to fly after that for at least 45 minutes.

I read where he is suspect of DWI.  A trucker, first on the scene, stated there was the smell of alcohol in the airplane.

Being behind the controls of an aircraft while intox is NOT COOL...

I'm certain that you guys that've been flying for years are really comfortable with the pilot routines, but the quantity of tasks, and the rate at which they pass through the controls on just a routine ride are still a bit overwhelming.

IMO, The only excuse for running out of fuel, is if something, somewhere fails in flight, such that the supply departs at a rate significantly faster than it should.

Be that as it may, when an aircraft is losing altitude and airspeed, it will eventually re-establish interface with the earth, and the circumstances, by that time, aren't negotiable.  The choices available, are widest at the first moment when the pilot determines the existence of a problem... and the amount of time it takes to assess the nature of that problem has a significant affect on what will become the landing site.

If he was drunk, and managed to set it down safely, his reward is continued life.  Decision to be drunk?  Could be.  Could he have been hypoxic, or suffering from CO poisoning?  yep.  Could it have been a Youtube stunt?  Yep.  The authorities will figure that out.

At least he didn't be stupid and bail out of his plane after it ran out of fuel...  which some moron did... as a youtube stunt...  No sensible pilot jumps out of a perfectly good airplane, and no sensible pilot in a light aircraft gets in wearing a parachute.
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.
