If I’m not mistaken didn’t John Deere have a few models years ago with that?

This guy was/is a member on here and NAT, seems like he worked for the Ford tractor plant on the P/S tranny and then ended up at JD on the same project?? He did the ball hitch on his own in the early '80's ?? Thanksfor the reply

Old JD 490 planters had a ball hitch, also 494 planters.

If I recall, didn’t those planters have a chain/cable on each side of the hitch, and those activated the row markers, when you turned around at the end of the field? |

Dad bought a 490 planter in 1962. It had a pin dropped in the drawbar. The pin had a loop on the top of it and another pin went through a couple of loops on the cast iron planter hitch and went through the loop on top of the pin. That pin was held in with a cotter key, nail bent over, or a clip if you could find it. My 494A was the same way.

Have 2 494s. Both pin hitch. A small pin that drops between two lugs and some kind lock through the lug holes. Marker control chains attach to a slingshot type frame bolted the drawbar ahead of the hitch.

Sadly, I'm going to call BS on your reply, We ran a 294 A and there was NO provisions for a "ball hitch" ![]() !! Oddly, the 494 "elongated" hitch pin area is EXCATLY the same elongated hitch on the '86 7000 CT![]() !!Yet "AGAIN" , you guys are missing the point of my post, Who's the guy that has NOT replied on here or other forums recently ?? Seems like he was from Iowa and had at LEAST TTPP but was very cordial with his info

Worked for a neighbor that pulled with a Farmall 656 gas, the first year I worked there, then traded if for. JD 7000 4row. Planted 700 acres a year, it was for whole 8 years I worked for them. Then went and worked for another neighbor, he had the same planter, pulled with a JI Case 830D Comfort King. |

The only farm equipment I have seen with ball hitches is hay balers. Thought it was a pain to have to deal with until I used it. Pulling a 3 wire tie baler with it's own engine on it with a JD A. The ball hitch took a lot of the jerk out of that big plunger hitting by not having baler rattling around on a 3/4 pin in a 1 1/4 hole.

Well, thanks for the "death" notification (when was this ??), but are you certain about the PS tranny's ? In hindsight, you're probably correct, Gerald was an electrical guru if memory serves

Just log on to the website of the local newspaper where someone lived, pull up the obituaries and search for the persons name. The family pays to have obituaries printed and posted on line, or in the newspaper.

This is not snooping???But we now know his name is Harold Brock and to look up what is on the world wide web is snooping??? Like maybe reading his obituary, which in general praising the good things the person has done, would be snooping?
So I guess you are looking for gossip??? |
