I removed the pto from my b to replace it wit another one, the po welded a pully to the shaft. I think the gasket is supposed to have a lip at the bottom to create an oil reserve for the hydraulic pump is what im geussing. Someone tore away that lip for some reason. anyway are new gaskets available for the pto ? or do I have to make one. if I make one, I dont know how high the lip should be. Does anyone have one to measure it for me ?

Yes, the gasket has a lip at the bottom to dam up the oil so if you are going down a hill the oil doesn't run to the front of the transmission and leave the hydraulisc starve.
They are available from Agco and on this site. Bob

The pic has the PTO cover gasket in this B/C gasket/seal set. (the large gasket middle left) As the pic shows, it does have a lip, or dam. Hopefully you can approximate the lip placement from the holes.

I've always made them. If ya lay the 1 1/2" side of a framing square centered on the second two mounting bolt holes from the bottom and draw a line across the gasket you will have the correct height for the oil dam.

Scaleing the above post, the top of the dam is 3 tenths of the overall height of the gasket from the bottom
I have taken off lots of B/C/CA ptos and never found a dam gasket. Err, I mean a gasket with a dam. Must all have been flat land tractors

I don't want to hijack this thread but, is the gasket and seal set shown above commercially available as a kit (especially the gaskets)? Or do you have to order the gaskets individually? In either case, where's the best place to buy them?

Others probably know the answer to this, Jim. I believe I stole... er... borrowed... I mean benchmarked this pic from Ebay, but I'm not positive. I grabbed it from somewhere for future reference because my memory'a short. If this hasen't been kitted to sell, it should be. |

I agree Ken, I've also removed lots of B/C PTO units and found no dam. The only dam I ever remember finding was destroyed and laying in the bottom of the casing. In restoring them I don't worry about the dam either.

I think if the tractor was built without the pump the gasket would be different because they list one for the PTO housing without a pump but it is nolonger available.
AGCO sells the one for with a pump for around $8.00 and change. |

I think Jeff may have the answer here. My 1940 has the hydraulic pump, and has the dam gasket. That certainly makes sense.
