Years ago, I had a fuel customer tell me his early 7080 had a lot more pulling power than the later 1 he traded for. Does anyone know if there was a difference in HP or tranny ratios? Just wondering. I put this in the wrong place. Sorry guys its been a looong day.

I'd bet his early one had been turned up and the later was stock. AaronSEIA

45 years ago, I had a customer who had two identical 190XTD series 3's. He called one "Gunner" and the other one was called "Gunners Sister". Both dyno'd the same HP. Gunners Sister had a cab and Firestone F-151 18.4 x 34's and Gunner was cab-less and had Goodyear 18.4 x 34's. As far as I was concerned Gunner weighed about 600to 700 lbs less on the rear wheels and actually had LESS traction than Gunners Sister. That and the fact that you heard the engine noise and turbo whistle better without the cab on it, making you think it was more powerful.

The cab to no cab H.P. difference is amazing. I've heard that one a time or to myself.

200Tom1, those 7080s set right were pulling monsters. Probably slight differences in injection pump settings or maybe slight inj pump timing??
For laughs - The later T handle & cables of the PD could be parasitic of maybe 5 hp? Also, if the early one had a “Cherry Bomb”muffler, “Thrush”muffler, “WLS-am radio” or any cool looking decal(s) then that could of added some 5hp each? Hey... a Richard Petty “STP” sticker definitely added 10hp each!! Edited by AC7060IL - 27 Jan 2022 at 9:25am |

Neighbor had a 7045 that he believed was a demonstrator tractor. Pump was set different from the factory he claimed it was unreal the difference in that tractor compared to other 426 powered Allis’s he had. I’m betting I heard about that 7045 story 8-10 times.

They don't always leave the factory correct. A guy here had 2 AC 440's both bought new from the same dealer. The first pulled a lot more than the second. Took lots of complaining, but finally tractor got to a Cummins certified shop (not the dealer) . I don't remember the problem, but there was one.
