 Topic: Ot Remote starters

Has anyone had any experience with remote starters for cars. My wife is changing jobs and will no longer have her car in a garage in the winter for the 3-4 days a week she is traveling. She has a Rendevus and a VW Beetle. Any experiences good or bad on GM or foriegn cars. Thanks ! Jim

I have one on a 1999 Blazer. It is great. It has been on there for years(installed 2002)and no problems with it. Omega is the brand.

We hav them on our Dodge Durango and F-350 with 7.3 power stroke and they work awsome.

My wife has had them in her last two Malibu's. It is a requirement for any vehicle she will purchase. The thing has never given her any problems.
You can really mess with people that are walking by the car in a parking lot and it starts up. Now if they could get it to come to the door and pick you up when the weather is bad THAT would be something!

Trust me when I say have it done by an experienced professional. The anti-theft systems are what makes it tricky. Do it wrong and now you have a no start on your hands. I had one put on my wife's Nissan Pathfinder and she loves it. My truck came with one already installed.

MAKE SURE it is done by a reputable installer, here at the dealership, we run into nightmares with novice installed ones.

If the remote start kit has a 2nd "channell" it sure can. The one I got for my wife does.

I've got them in both vehicles for the past 5-6 years.
Great for getting the truck warmed up, just remember to leave the defrostors on high and turn the sunvisors down( vertical ) position.They'll trap the heat better, cleans off the windshield quicker.
All units will shutoff after 10,15 minutes giving enough time to warm up engine,tranny,cabin but not waste gas.
Put the same make/model units in all your fleet,preferably pro installed. I can start either car with any remote,make it real handy...1 remote on the keychain! Also ,better units($$) will control doors, alarm system,trunk locks,interior lights,etc.

we've has them on a couple of vehicles now and love them ,funny thing about them when you want to start them you have to aim at the truck but if it in my pocket it will start once in a while if i have a lot of small stuff in my pockets with the key and am climbing the steps from the wood shop and the truck is parked in front of the door LOL Kev

My friend used to sell them aftermarket. He did not recommend the aftermarket ones to anyone! If the car did not start, they would tow it to the mechanic, he would see the remote starter and say it is in that system. Tow it to my buddies shop, nothing wrong with the remote start, then have to tow it to the mechanic again. TOO much crap for the effort were his thoughts. I would only consider one that came with the car from the factory.
