    Posted: 12 Dec 2021 at 8:40pm
Checked the separator drive clutch to make sure it snapped when engaged (page 94).
Started cutting soybeans and all seemed well for about 1/8 of a mile.  Warning horn and lights activated.  Stopped to evaluate.  Tightened the adjusting ring counterclockwise.
Turned the separator by hand. Restarted the engine and engaged the separator drive clutch and allowed the combine to clear itself.  Drove 3 feet and the warning system activated again. Decided it was time to head back to the shop for further evaluation.
Upon disassembly, the clutch plate (71302902) was missing the facing on the outboard side. The plate (71167614) had multiple cracks.  [Ref. page 328 AGCO Parts Catalog F2/F3 Series Combine Separator-Clutch Shaft, Eff. S/N 36201-48200].

Will be replacing the plate and clutch plate.

Time to shop for new parts or check out some junked machines.

The previous owner mentioned something about the clutch to my helper, but my helper forgot to tell me.  GrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrCensored

Ought to be a million good used ones in the salvage yards. I wouldn't be afraid of a good used friction disc either. Your pressure plate that bad? They last forever if you idle down and let it drag a little to get things rolling before you snap it in. I think I replaced the dive pins...the disc was badly slotted and the pins worn....can't be certain.

The salvage yards are getting pretty long in the tooth, we replaced our F2 clutch plate with a true AGCO  part for $200 (NEW) and didn't have to drive 275 miles to Bryant for a "hopefully-better" clutch than we already had Smile !!

Depends how much you use it, if only small acres and lots of free time to work on machines find a good used if it's at a good discount. If agco is reasonable enough and plan to run the machine long enough I'd say it's worth going new.

Keep it adjusted and only engage at idle and should last you forever I imagine

Upon further investigation, both plates are cracked.
Looks like a trip to the salvage is in order.

I have made inquiries to several salvage yards for the separator clutch parts.  Not much luck.  One did call me with a price quote.  I can just here the owner of the machine choke when I tell him the price. Can't wait to get this machine gone.  Has taken up too much of my time.
I hope to get some more prices tomorrow.

You know what?? I know good operators who always engaged the separator clutch with the engine idling, never plugged the machine and always kept the "snap" nice and crisp (adjusted properly) and maybe got 20 or more years of service out of the clutch. Separator clutches are just like clutches and brakes on a car.....life length depends how they are treated.

IF the pates are not warped - the heat cracks will not be an issue.
When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..

No, I am not the owner.  I never said I was the owner.  This machine belongs to one of my friends.  He bought it and wanted me to work the bugs out.
The reason why I would like the machine "GONE" is because I am busy.  I have a couple of money generating projects which will be starting soon. Also, have some of my own machinery which is in need of my attention.
Originally, I figured a week or two to get the F2 ready for him.  Things are taking longer than expected.  I saved back some beans to harvest with his F2.  May have to get my neighbor to cut the rest of the beans.
