The old boy has come apart but there are some parts issues, wondering how to solve. They claim the shaft is bent. I am thinking of welding tabs to the vertical end of shaft for a flat achor, maybe welding it to the press, and trying to get it straighter. ??? They need the shim pack for the bearings. Is that available anywhere or improvisable?? They claim the spring loaded shaft seal assembly (spring assembly in illustration) is in three pieces. I'm wondering if using appropriate washers and gluing them in with RTV silicone might be a solution?? Any source for these parts? Edited by WaltDevore - 09 Nov 2021 at 6:33pm |

Bent shaft, you might get it straight, largely will depend on your skill level, and that whole time vs money thing. Shims can be cut out of various thicknesses of gasket paper, using the bearing retainer as your pattern. I wouldn't skimp on the seals, if you do get that shaft straight, or buy a new one, I'd put the right seals on... I'm no help on parts, but someone may yet chime in... Good luck!

Walt...You should be able to find those parts used. You might have to wait until Hector (gemdozer) spots this. He was in the earlier conversation....more than likely he would have the parts you need...or PM him. We could probably disassemble one to find a shaft...shims...and working seals. You need to stay with the original parts to make it work right.

How much bend does it have ? Should have a pilot hole in each end... mount between centers and use dial indicator at the center to see how much out. Mark the high spots and put in VEE blocks in the press if you want to try that.. Like DAVE said, it can be done, but you have to go slow and work it... If used are reasonable price, that is easier.
Shims can be made if not available.... Spring / seals / bearings are the important part. Edited by steve(ill) - 10 Nov 2021 at 3:53pm |

Gemdozer gave it his best shot but the parts were not workable. Back to the drawing board. Any referrals or tree shaking much appreciated. Thanks All.

Where you are located I would contact General Gear in ID, they did have a number of AC units still on the yard but were getting thinner by the year.

I have the remains of a HD 5 with the track removed and track frame loose all rollers and the idler. So if you get out this way( Calif) I can set it all on your trailer.
