Hello I have a 1936 unstyled wc that I was using the other day and it slowed to an idle and quit. it does start and run with pressure against the jackshaft out of governor box to the carb as I pull on jackshaft it seems to fight any throttle movement yesterday I set throttle to about half, the rod and lever seem to operate normally to the governor box. The tractor started and ran normally for a moment then it started to build rpms until I decided it would run away or blow! I removed the cover on the front of the governor box, the governor spring and plunger, thrust bearing, governor lever, all look normal I cannot see the weights or any further into governor box.I wonder if I need to disassemble the governor box from the distributer end to see the weights or remove radiator etc. to get at it if this is the problem? The service manual is not very clear on troubleshooting this. Thank you Dale

First off welcome aboard. Now on to your governor problem. I'd pull the governor housing with the governor sill in it off the tractor look at the weights shaft the unit moves on pins on the shaft that gos to the carb and the gear. If the weights have come apart they may have gone through the camshaft gear and are in the pan. don't start it until you know the governor gear is intact. let us know how it looks inside there.

Hello again,well i removed the governor housing from the box WOW! The thrust bearing was still intact in the fork, from there to the mag/gov gear everything is either missing or smashed up and laying in the bottom of the gov box.both gov weights are missing probably in the pan as Don suggested, its hard to believe it was still running fine except for the throttle problem.It appears that the gov/mag and cam gear are somehow unscathed no chipped gear teeth that i can see. the gov shaft seems to have escaped any damage also. so i am wondering if these parts are available and what you guys think about dropping the pan and inspect and clean and see if i can bring her back to life?thanks again

Well Dale you just used up your good luck for the day if the cam and governor gears survived the weights going by them. lol
Yes you need to drop the pan and clean the scrap iron out of it. Please look real good at the gears before you put it all back together. Yes you can get new parts from ACGO they will be a little high or you can get used parts on here from the suppliers.
If you don't come up with them I have a good governor unit out of a WD that will fit.

Hello again,
It appears that I need more help. My tractor WC 35384 leads me to believe that my tractor is a 1936. Is this correct? Also, on the rear left side of the engine block below and behind the carburetor were I should find the engine block number is a smooth flat area with no serial number that I can find. Am I looking in the right spot?
I think I would like to replace everything from the governor fork lever back to the mag gov gear. This includes a gov weight assemble, thrust bearing carrier, thrust bearing assemble, and riser pin. Is that all the parts to this assembly group? I have not found any part numbers. Can you direct me to their location or do I buy these parts by groups? I have looked at AGCO and other sites and can not seem to find what I need. Please help. Thanks Dale

The engine serial number on Unstyled tractors was stamped on a square pad in the center of the block on the back end. The stamping spot was moved to where you are looking after the electric start was introduced. Tractor #31783 was the last 1936 tractor. Yours would be a 37.

Hi guys,I need more help,info,advice,please.my tractors gov assembly is 9 1/4" long from the flange where it bolts to the block to the back of the dist housing. the dist is straight up and 3 3/4" tall from flange where it bolts to the gov housing to where the dist cover snaps on.the mag/gov gear has a round machined area on the front side where the gov weights attach. this is not square with pin holes in the square part to attach weights as pictured on most sites?I guess that is the wd update for my tractor? so do you guys think i would be better of with a wd gov assembly and all parts to the thrust fork or can i find the parts for my wc from mag/gov gear to the fork.thanks again 'lucky'
