For primer and finish for WC/WD size tractor? Plan to use automotive paint-not rattle can.

Varies widely depending on your gun, technique and how far you take it down. When I redid our WD I used almost exactly 1/2 gallon of Omni MTK urethane top coat. I have read where guys said they could not get one painted on less than two gallons, shop floor must shine good too, or maybe they painted outside during a hurricane? LOL. All of your other componants will come sized for a gallon. Most people buy a gallon plus the needed extras and then purchase a quart if needed. I use expoxy primer and two quarts will get it done and leave extra. Where I purchase surfacer it only comes in gallons, how much you use again varies widely.
I would add that people who are not exactly sure what they are doing should purchase all componants, top to bottom, from the same suppier. I know it smarts when you have to pull out the big FRNs to purchase materials but it smarts even worse the second time though due to a goobered up paint job.

I bought a gallon of Etch Primer, Gallon of Reducer(mixes one to one), a Gallon of Herchel Adams Paint from my local AGCO/Kubota Dealer, then went to NAPA and got a Gallon of reducer and a quart of hardener.....its an Alkyd Enamel so make sure you get the right stuff....it mixes 8:4:1 and if you check out my thread "here's some fresh Orange" and see how much is painted....took probably a 1/3 of a gallon of primer, and half a gallon of paint....now my gun is a cheapo and I have lots of overspray though. For an HVLP gravity fed gun you should run between 10 and 15psi....I have to run near 25 until it lays nice....I also found I was running closer to 10:4:1 with my mix on my final paint...it was a bit thicker and layed alot nicer in the all rough areas tractors have.....good luck!

Part of it depends on how far you have it torn down. Takes more if you are painting parts hanging from a wire... How far are you going on the undersides of the hood and insides of the sheet metal. My opinion is the color looks looks better with more paint as compared to less and if you dont have enough paint you will be sorry because the next mix might not be the same color.

I used a gallon of paint gallon of thinner and aquart of hardner. painted a WD45 including insides of hood and radator shell and loader mounts. had about a quart leftwhen done.

Using Omni I get 1 gal of primer, one Qt of sealer, 1 gal of mtk paint and one Qt of hardner. I always have leftover paint maybe 1 qt that i throw away , but who wants to run out

When I painted my Oliver 60, the body/paint guy at the dealership I worked for said for automotive paint, get 2 gallons mixed up. I used most of it.

I just got done with a WD with ppg paint it took little less than a gallon of expoxy primer and 1 gallon and a quart of paint to finish each wd.

IF you get some of the thick PPG automotoive paints that you mix 1 to 1, lots of thinner, that gives you a lot of paint. With the harderned you get quite a bit of paint. Some of the aftermarket paints i have bought , you mix a quart of thinner and a pint of hardener to a gallon... dont have much "total" paint and you will use almost all of it. I normally use about 5 quarts "of mixed paint" to paint a tractor. It all depends on what ratio your using to dilute and harden the paint. Be safe and buy a gallon of paint, the proper hardener and thinner. You might have a little left over.

I just did an unstyled WC, using PPG and epoxy primer and used a gallon of each. "Did," is used very loosely, still have some miscellaneous parts left but plenty of paint. I have at least 3 coats on everything and more on most.
Did you PM me about some WC brake shoe pad replacements? Lost all my old messages, if so I can get you the details.
