 Topic: One wire alternator question

I've had a mini one-wire alternator for a while and now I am thinking of installing it on my C. I looked on the back of the alternator and it has provisions for a connector and has two blades.
Can anyone tell me the purpose of the connection? Does this offer the ability to connect it as a three-wire alternator? If so, which blade connects to what?
Any help would be appreciated.

yes. that is what the plug is for.... should be some numbers or letter on the case, but looks like this.... the "light" can be a diode, resistor, or idiot light.
in the picture, the "fuse box" is basically the ON- OFF key /switch

With an alternator which has only 2 terminals, D + and B +, does the light connected in D + can be a simple light like a led, or must be a bulb light with minimum power light 3W to excite the alternator?

john, normally a LED is not used.. What is needed is a small drop in voltage to the terminal to TELL the alternator to kick in and start charging... You can use a small filament bulb, sometimes a DIODE, or a resistor. ....I found an old DELCO "test book" years ago that said on a TEST BENCH, they used a 10 OHM resistor for testing the older 10SI alternators, and a 100 OHM resistor for testing the newer C130 units......... i think that works out at 14 watts for the old unit and 1.4 watts for the newer unit..... I got resistors at RAdio Shack... about 1/4 inch square and 2 inches long for $2 each.

goose.... it's a 'one wire' alternator, one wire from stud to battery,so do NOT assume those 2 pins DO anything !!! The casting is common to several styles,both 1 and 3 wire alternators and windmill power units.
That could just be a 'hole filler'( other side of pins go nowhere...). Connector is cheaper than a solid plug.
you best contact whoever MADE the alternator, not the reseller.....for real information.

Indeed! I just have the 1 wire on mine to the battery. Nothing else is needed. Starts charging as soon as it starts up

Jay, I've wondered if that was the case for my one wire alternator. It works just fine with only the main wire connected (as the name implies). I tried to hook up the idiot light only becuase the terminal was avilable, and it won't work. Guessed that the connectors are just plugging the hole.
