I'm going to say NOT in this instance, they showed the residence of the "heiress" of the pizza company, she was a poster child for "high maintenance" and the #'s thrown out to "update" the cash/ordering computers was CRAZY

back in the seventies i was given the chance to be the head dude at a new local Pizza Hut franchise. i turned it down because i wanted to farm not be a desk jockey or pizza disc jockey. i should have done it! back then it cost $.18 cents to make a large 2 topping pizza, they sold for between $3-$4. each back then. that's a pretty good profit! the dude that took that job after i declined ended up buying that store and 3 more in the surrounding area. he is a multi millionaire. he's also a red tractor lover! lol. to this day he and i are the only ones that order shrimp on our pizzas from the "hut"!

Local Shop makes Handmade pizza and pastas I actually asked what profit line was, only 6-9%, owner said worked for a chain company where had to buy a franchise, made less than 5% profit the rest went to the Parent Company in that they supplied bulk materials to maintain consistency and could buy at a 1/3 to 1/2 LESS expense than he does in a private specialty shop.
Do the math

One thing to remember about the Undercover Boss 'handouts of money' , is that 100% is tax deductable, so it lowers their 'bottom line' and what they have to pay Uncle Sam at tax time. We've got slimey businessmen who buy rundown properties to 'offset' their 'pretty profitable' properties, again to reduce taxes paid. Up here biggest expenses would be staff and gas, ingredients are cheap... When I was selling computers( mid 70s) about 3% profit margin.. Jay

Seems Pizza Hut now is having to liquidate a lot of stores , change business model on others and other financial problems with parent company .
It might have been a good run for a while but like many businesses the present times is making may fold - Golden Corral is part of that group and a couple others and they are all suffering |

Anything above 5% NET profit is reasonable. To realize a good profit you have to have a good product, hold your employees to a high standard but treat them well, and manage expenses closely. Pizza Hut has closed a lot of outlets, Papa John's is having problems, and I am sure Dominos is also. The only ones that seem to survive for a long period of time are the Mom & Pop restaurants that have a passion for the business. And they have the best food and the best service. I did cooking equipment maintenance for a steak house chain years ago, there is no way I would want to be in the restaurant business.

Food service industry here is and has been in trouble since the later Boomers began reaching retirement age. Lack of ethics, lack of desire to even have ethics the base idea they are 'Owed' jobs at higher wages regardless experience by Millennials is killing our service sector employ in a town specializing in vacationers, weekenders, and service sector supplies for those. Are fast losing Cleaning staffs for support business, losing waiters and waitress, inability to derive sub managers for multiple function shops(IE Winery/Restaurant/B&B or full Hotel/Venue facilities). Gas stations have permanent or semi permanent help wanted signage as hire these kids(Up to thirty somethings) they become overwhelmed when more than one patron gets in line, get frustrated as to be overloaded and quit, ride the UI line til runs out. This story pays out every city in the US.

Company i worked for had a saying... "What are we making".... most would say some type of Widget....."NO, we are making MONEY"..... If your not making about 5% profit then your in the WRONG business.. Might as well sell out and put the money in BONDS or Stock Market.

Yeah....5%.....explains why my company pegs "profit sharing" an anything over 7% is shared. At that, the entire company has to do that well, regardless of how well our location does. Rarely amounts to more than a couple hundred bucks every few years. Oh well, it is "free" unplanned for money and better than a poke in the eye.

I love me a good pizza. I try to support the local pizza places, but inevitably they fail. Last one was under cooking their pizzas. I told them. Next time the pizza was under cooked again. I told them again and said that I had told them before and since they hadn't changed, I wouldn't be back. I guess they turned down the temp on their oven to use less gas. They all use the chain drive ovens now so when it comes out, it should be done. They went out of business shortly thereafter. If there ain't a local place I go to Jets Pizza, always a great pizza. They must be doing okay because they will always give you some sorta coupon discount if you ask them. We have a local steak house chain. They gotta be in the black. Anytime I go by there they have a full parking lot. They have around five locations, I've been to three different ones and they all were the same. A wait time for a table. Good food. Lucky's Steak House. I can't see how 100k would help a chain, unless it was only maybe three stores. And then they are losing another percent to one of the Shark Tank Investor.
