HD-5 jumped track

   The dozer jumped the track on the right side. Pins and bushings worn through, sprocket all points. Jumps off in reverse, more so if ground uneven, forward no problem. Looking at the idler I saw that the wear plates are broken. Taking the idler off found 3 of 4 plates busted and inside frame bent up from track. Made the plates from 3/8 stock, spacer from 1/8. Dowels are no good but made those from 5/8 rod turned down to 1/2. Still tried to jump after but seemed not as often. Noticed that the side guides only caught the  plates on the top edge. Added 3/8 to the bottom edge of the outside guide plate, helped more. No real fix for the bad tracks, just have to pay attention in reverse.

	One of the problems with old machines is WEAR - one can keep trying to do things to prevent the track from derailing but it limits what one can do , no side hills , careful adjustments on track tension and lot of wishing . Had that problem on my HD4 and finally figured out best solution was to let next owner worry about it . You noticed the shims under those slide plates - another part of the full keeping the track straight , I did similar work on my HD5G and it has made it less of a problem but the cure was putting new track on - problem now is there is o more supply of that track unless one can find a set that have been squired away in some forgotten spot . Finding a set of sprocket rings to weld to present spokes and finding a tack to fit present rollers and idler would be another solution but don't know of any When I had my D6-9U I ended up with D5 track and segmented sprockets I welded onto D6 spokes - then a year later that machine also found another owner as other problems came up . My FD 5 Fiat Allis dozer is now on 2nd set of tracks since I replaced the HD5B that came before . Sure is nice to have 80 HP and 6 way blade over a 48 HP and straight blade
