What makes him So special?
Are hundreds of as or more serious accidents daily but he is doted over as something special ‘Just in recovery rehab for most recent back surgery’ so I would imagine Oxy or some other narcotic use for pain and should NOT have been driving. |

What makes him so special? Have any of us here won the Masters, 15 major championships and 82 total professional golf tournaments? Didn't think so.
I don't care either, not a golf fan. But millions are, and millions are interested, so it gets on the news. If you're not interested, tune it out, why bitch?

i actually watched a lot of CNN as they weren't Trump bashing... though I suppose THAT was his fault too ? haven't watched TV today, too nice, warmish and SUNNY,for now. It's pretty dang OBVIOUS what happened once you SAW the road 'uphill'.... He came down it real FAST, lost control, 'removed' a pole, the flipped over..down the hill. NOBODY said that OR the MAKE of the car...just that it was a freebie from the golf tournament. He's LUCKY to be alive, seriouly doubt he'll ever swing a club again as for all the media coverage...simple BLACK privalege, same as OJ .

I do hope some good comes out of his crash, I think all golfers cars/trucks be equipped with a warning device that blares FORE the second that machine starts to leave the roadway.

I have mixed feelings about all of these "safety" items on cars now, auto parking, lane assist, auto driving cars, etc. All they do is give "drivers".... or steerers as they become, a false sense of safety and that they are now justified in looking at that cell phone or other not paying attention activities, as the car will take care of doing it and alert them. It is all a part of the dumbing down of the people. What happens if those electronic gadgets fail, and then you have to regain control, people won't know what to do because they've thought it isn't necessary.

The ONE 'safety' item I want to see mandated into EVERY vehicle would be a 'local cell phone jammer'. There's ZERO need for any driver at ANY time driving the vehicle to be yammering on the phone. None, zero, zip, zilch, rien.

Tiger is one of the luckiest guys I know, every time he wrecks the cocktail waitress always makes a clean break uninjured and he doesn't have to explain just who she was and what happened. Texting hands free.

In response to the OP, he is an accomplished athlete. Won a few championships, etc. No different than Brady, Rogers, etc, except golf isn't much of a team sport, one wins or looses pretty much on his own (the caddy does help some).
But, he became a hero (an over used term, especially here) to me when he pretty much told Billy Clinton to bugger off!

Stop and think how much pressure he is under from the way his father raised him. I have not really looked close as I have no interest in the sports culture of North America. But I would bet he never had a childhood to run and play and do dumb stuff kids do. His father put a golf club in his hands at being able to stand and he did nothing much but practice golf.
I don't give him a pass on all the things he has done. But do hope he finds some peace in life without it coming from drugs or alcohol.

Part of the warped culture now. Any sports star, move star, etc. stubs their toe and it is all over the news. True very few make it to the top of their game. But I have never needed a sports star or movie star. I have needed the men and women of our armed forces, law enforcement, emergency medical services doctors, nurses and fire fighters and they are my heroes.

Almost orginally posted the same exact thing Shame, I just decided to make light of the situation instead. I'm not sure how we got here over the decades but if movie stars, comedians, athletes(even golfers), politicians, and even mass murderers die they get wall to wall news coverage because that's important stuff to the public, yet the absolute essentials to life like those provided by farmers, carpenters, doctors, etc. and the protective services provided by police, fireman, military and EMT's get?? You guessed it, mum is the word when any of them die. At least we have our priorities straight in this country.

He started out right, but then turned into a first class jerk. He's ruined HIS life and the lives of a few others. I'm a golfer and I could care less if I ever hear his name again. Not after all that he's done. And that goes along with a LOT of other so called 'special' people. They've put him on a pedestal that he doesn't deserve. I don't feel sorry for him or any other drug addict that COULD have gotten help and gotten the monkey off their backs. Too bad..... Am I a cynic?? Hell yes, what about the person who had the talent, but never got the chance?

He is famous for two reasons.......first is he is one of the best to ever play the game. In his early days, he hit some shots that had anyone who knows anything just shaking their heads. A 220 yard cut shot from a fairway bunker that he hit inside 5 feet to a tough pin location tucked behind a greenside bunker. His first Masters win, he won by something like 13 strokes, which may have been an all time record. And that goes back a ways.....he was on Mike Douglas TV show at age 2......with Bob Hope. In the early days, he towered about 120% above the rest of the field. Nobody else was close. All through grade school, high school, amateur years until he turned pro, and dominated everywhere. Second reason.....that his father was black, making him half black in a sport that was 99% white made him a news media sensation. That he was good would have only mattered to golfers. That he was good and black was a force multiplier that made him a media sensation throughout society. Same thing with Obummer. But then he started screwing up. Instead of dancing with what brung him, he kept trying to improve. He went through 4 or 5 swing doctors, each making changes, which screwed him up, and probably is what lead to the bad back. Also suspect he was taking steroids, which also didn't help. All that takes a toll. Have only been to one big time golf event, and it is a spectacle. Corporate sponsors and fans with too much money chasing celebrity. Bottom line is the world they live in isn't reality. Maybe for them, but not really. Most simply cannot handle the money, fame and celebrity without crashing and burning. Will be interesting to see what the black box says. My guess is driving way too fast......probably a habit of his. Problem that plagues a lot of folks these days.

And the nature of the coverage is pretty obvious. They continue to worship the celebrity and leave out the flaws.

Everyone has good points. Culture is wrong, cynical, don’t care, etc etc.
Thing is it’s nothing new, nothing has changed except there’s more media. Why is there more media? Because there’s money to be made in media, and people are motivated to make money. Ever hear of Red Grange or Jim Thorpe? How about Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, or Ty Cobb? Mickey Mantle. How about Jackie Robinson? I fully realize there isn’t a single racist among us, but there are some out there and ol Jackie had a pretty rough time of things. The first time Tiger played at the Masters, making the cut as an amateur, the first black member at Augusta had only been a few years before that. So he was a big deal, like it or not, and it’s just a fact of life whether we like it or care. |
