Was looking at the bed on my 89 F250 while I was at the farm this week and it appears that the center part may be a separate piece. Does anyone know if that section can be removed without removing the entire bed? Sure would make it easier for a fat old guy to get to the fuel tank selector valve and plumbing rather than crawling under the truck.

Not sure about a Ford but, I have worked on Chevy & Dodges— 15 min and the bed will be off. Takes to for lifting off.

I am still confident of this;

the BIG problem is the 6 bolts that go thru the floor into the frame.. Might take 15 minutes, or 2 hours to get them off !! ...... Once they are off, tail light wires, gas tank hose, axle vent, etc... and ready to lift off... I park under a barn beam and use a couple little cable come alongs to inch it up.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping to get by without having to remove the bed but hadn't seen any information on doing that. Looks like the come alongs will be the easiest route.

I put one come along on the front left and one at the right rear. Used a hook into the pocket at the corner.. The other two corners i put a 3/8 inch nylon rope.... Crank the bed up 6 inches, then tie the ropes to stabalize from tipping.. Crank up another 6 inches, tie ropes again.. Park in a good area so when bed is up a foot, you can push or pull it forward 10 ft to get away from the bed......... work on truck, then push back into position and lower bed.

Look at the bright side— if everything is rusted, it will be replaced when you fix the sending unit. The first one I helped with, I thought it was going to be a major job.. not at all. If you had a 2008 Chevy, you would get to do it every few years

Grind the heads off the 8 bolts,undo the filler necks, wiring harness,maybe a ground strap.either crane or forklift the bed off. if you heat the bolts@ the 'nuts' you MIGHT get 1 or 2 off,though most snap...then well,now you know why I said grind the heads off I've done this to maybe 25 to 30 pickups in the past 10-12 years When you're ready to reattach, be sure nuts are good, use lots of neversieze ,and of course new $$ bolts....
