I just bought a AC 816 backhoe and curious how to get it to shift? I moved forward and back just fine. Put new transmission oil in it but it doesn’t seem to want to shift out of first gear. Open to any suggestions.

If your machine has been well used, the linkage going from the shifter to the top of the transmission often becomes loose enough that the gears don't respond, I had it happen to mine although not on first gear I don't believe. I'm sure you'll see what needs doing once you look at it with the floor plates off.
