Haven’t been on for awhile but I was having trouble replacing the brakes with pin being seized. Used a air powered die grinder and diamond bit to slice it out in small pieces and then could drive it out from the outside. Definitely not a engineering marvel. I am now replacing rear seal on pto gearbox. Can it be done without dropping gearbox down. Will the gearbox drop down if I remove the six nuts from the studs. Already have long pto shaft removed.
     Thanks

yes the gear box will drop down no problem, ive had a few off the last couple years do to old seals failing, it is best to do it on the bench there are shims under the front cap to keep the bearings snugged up that you will have to watch for!

Brake pins can also look like this when you cut them out with oxy/act not a fun day:

Last PTO box I did I put in double seals on the output shaft.
Here is a shot into the drive shaft from the gearbox:

End plate for output shaft with new seals in place.

It will drop down when the six nuts are removed. If I remember right it is tight clearance where the nuts go on and it keeps dropping a little as all the nuts are removed.

Hope that helps a little! Your doing great! Need more pictures too!

 Chris

I may go the diamond grinder route on my brake pins if I can't get them out... How long did it take you to cut them out with the air tool?

Thanks for all the info. guys. I think it took about a day and a half to get both pins out. Once they were sliced the inside one came out pretty easy but still had to use a air hammer on the outside one.Use a small diameter bit (1/4”). Watch for fine burrs and wear gloves and mask. Still managed to get some burr slivers. Not nice job but better than a torch I think. Good luck.

If I ever do one of these brake jobs again, (pins won't budge). I'm skipping the torch, straight to the drill and tap for 1/2X20 threads and pull them! Can even reuse the pins. Laying on the ground with sl*g dripping on you is no fun!
