Well, after 40+ years of working for the Farm Credit System, I retired on 12/31/20.  I've been blessed to have worked with many wonderful people over the years serving those in the most noble of professions... farming.

I guess I'll have more time to tinker with my tractors, help my farming buddy in the spring and the fall, more golfing, and just about anything else I want to do.  I'm sure I'll spend more time on the AC Forum too.

Congrats and wishing you the best on retirement.   However...... I wouldn't be looking too forward to all that spare time, as everyone I've talked to after they retire have all said the same thing....... I'm so busy now, I don't know when I ever had time to go to work.

Congratulation on you retirement, I done it in 2018 after 40 yrs also. The only thing I miss is the co workers and the people I had to deal with from the Iowa DOT, I'm also help farmer out when they need help, I've worked for three different farmer this last year at time in the year ( sad no Allis tractors ) . You're going to enjoy your retirement after you get use to not having structure schedule and kind of doing your own thing and it is true ( I think ) time goes faster and you'll wonder what day of the week it is also.

When I was coming up on the 40 year mark working for one company I figured in another 5 year I would retire. Then they closed the business down sold everything to another company 1,000 miles away and non-union and seems to have forgotten to pay into pension fund for 2 years also .
So went to work for a charter school - they closed down and I was 2 months short of being vested in their pension plan so after 2 year wait I got just the funds I had invested in the plan and they kept the schools share they paid in .
Went to work for a trucking company driving tankers next 5 years until i could get wife on Medicare - as health insurance was a big cost could not afford if i retired .

Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

Congratulations on your retirement! I have been retired for 14 years and wonder where the time went. The only drawback is I don't ever get a day off now.

Well, Brian,,a ton of Congratulation wishes,, You're gonna really like gettin up when YOU want to!! Clap I did mine in 2000 on an early retirement from company I worked at for 33 years, I kinda missed the endless emergency nature of the job,,but after 4 years they called me back to help during a BIG expansion and Turnaround project working 12-14 hours/day seven days a week for 4 weeks,,,I started to CHEW ole Joe's azz every night and decided I had had enough, so after that massive project, I went home and,,,,and ,,I never went back,,,,Clap  CHIT,,they don't even send me invites to the Picnic/golf tournament no more,,,WinkWink
I love gettin up at 5 Am,,but I love it even MORE when I get up around 8 Am and don't feel a bit guilty,,,Clap
 Good Luck,,!!

Gentlemen, thanks for your congratulations and well wishes; it is appreciated.  So far, I'm liking the sleeping in part of it, but I'll probably go back to my normal routine of getting up early (5:30-6:00).  It's too cold outside to do much in the shed so I'm hoping by March it'll warm up and I can get some things done outside.

NICE !!!
but... (there's always a but...)

this...
I guess I'll have more time to tinker with my tractors

hahaha... NOT unless you lock your doors, rip out the phones and put up 'gone fishin signs' !!!

It's amazing how many people will drop by with little jobs( only take you a minute...) and expect you to stop what you're doing (probably someone elses job...) and do it right then and there

Congrats Brian.  Must be a great feeling.  Say that cus it has been a while since official retirement.

I was drafted in Aug of 66.  Oh yeah and I got the job without applying.  LOL

And what bennies.  I remember the 365 day all expense paid vacation in sunny SE Asia.  Confused

I always say that I got drafted and did not have enough sense to get out, so my official retirement was in Aug of 1990.

Whee in the hey has time gone?

So do thinhs that you always wanted to do, sides  go to work, and Behave. Wink

I retired 10/1/20, after working from home since March.  Seems like I'm busier now, than when I was working (common problem, from what I've heard).  I'll be moving the heck out of Illinois ASAP...

I retired the last of January 2001. I'm never quite sure what day of the week it is, or date.
Because of COVID this is the first winter we've been home for winter.

GSTROM99 ..... Illinois only SCREWS YOU when you are a WORKER.... Once you retire, they no longer tax your Social Security , 401K , or Retirement Plan income.. .... its not bad to RETIRE here ... just SUCKS to WORK here.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.
