OK, I gots another one for all the juicetricians on here,,,,
On My Diehard 12 VDC battery charger the 3 position sliding switch that changes from 3 volt to 10 volt to 13 jump start is having trouble changing from one to other and must have some corrosion in the contacts as most of the time won't charge unless you jiggle the switch. It is a 3 position with 8 pins but only 5 of the pins have a wire hooked to it,,,?? I was able to get the PN from Sears Parts Direct as PN  0499000032 but you guessed it,,,, NLA !! There gotta be millions of switches on internet,,so what do I look for??  Most ads ask for "Pole and Throw" ,,? All I know is the switch is ON-ON-ON and most are ON-OFF-ON.

Is it a slide switch or a toggle switch?  You might take it apart and spray it with some brake cleaner, if ain't a sealed unit.

Try entering your part number in Google along with the word "switch". You should get several listings but Sears and the other sites only show 3 pins on the switch. Good luck

you dont need to take the switch apart.. It will have crimped edges and have a couple small cracks around the side... or on each side of the slide... SOAK IT with  brake cleaner or WD40... then blow out with air.. do it again........ works about 80% of the time.

Joe... they gave you the wrong part number... Your number is a ON- ON switch with 3 pins and 2 positions...

Aw heck,,Steve,,I had the switch apart,,(gently),,,before I read your last post and the stationary contacts on one side were worn pretty good is why it would only make contact if you jiggled the switch.
Many THANKS for the link to ACRC Tools,,,I checked them out and found an exact switch  for only $12 bucks,,,,AND they also carry an amperes meter that is same as mine that I may order too,,!!  Many Thanks Steve,,,,ClapClap

Schumacker makes a LOT OF BATTERY chargers... If you get one at Sears, Menards, NAPA... chances are it is a Schumacker with different paint and decals !!

That right there is so true, Steve. Mine is a Sears Diehard that I've had for a good many years and still works many wonderfulls,,except it got where you couldn't tell which charging rate it was on. Ten Four on that site having what you need as far as battery Chargers. They have every part I would need to make mine brand new again,,altho some of the bigger parts are kinda pricy, but then again,,,them chargers these days have gotten so friggin expensive,,,!!

I had an old charger, probably 40 - 50 years old. It was the smaller size with the handle on top.  It musta weighed close to 40 pounds.  The case was made of a lot heavier steel then they are made out of now.  When I opened it up the diode pack was fried.  I figured it was time for the scrap pile.  I took down the info and looked online.  The company still exists and they still sell the same charger.  I guess they have a following.  They sent me the parts and now it has a new life.

dj, checkyour OTHER 'thread'... FOUND what you need..info there....
here's the info....

The charger switch works as follows

1st position, 1--2 , 5--6 are connected
2nd position, 2--3 , 6--7 are connected
3rd position, 3--4 , 7--8 are connected

the Z strip ALWAYS has 2 connected to 7

clear as mud, right ?

You really need a DP3P slide switch.... Double pole, 3 positions.

One possible source...

dang only $3 CDN ! Digikey is GREAT....dealt with them of decades. Se what shipping costs are, minimum order and buy enough of them to make it worthwhile. if you need to buy 7, go for it....only $20.

OK I ghosted you, they're $2.22 each, shipping $5 USPS, $7 Fedex.....
man that's CHEAP !!! I'd still buy 5 of them.....no probably 10...

cheers

Jay
