where is the proper locations for the choke and starter rods for my 42 and 5 B ?
one is missing both and the other is cut, bent and welded on. it is mounted on the battery box with an angle iron drilled.
Does anyone have pics of the way they should be ?

(Proper) Location or the Location from the factory.
The starter pigtail rod is is mounted under the battery box thru an angle bracket mounted under one of the battery box bolts. The choke rod was mounted thru a hole in the pin that goes go thru the top of the post and brackets that hold the steering tube to the post. There should be pictures in my fotki site somewhere. Dick's picture appears to show the choke through a clevis pin that holds the steering tube to the support post. If yours isn't long enough, take it out and replace it with a longer one. I wonder if your tractors came with a starter delete plate originally. Lots of War tractors didn't have a starter but may have had the torque tube for one. If they didn't have a starter to begin with, they wouldn't need a choke control at the operators station, only at the carb.

Above the toolbox door on my CA there is a additional flat metal clip under a upper tool box machine screw . The choke rod goes thru this clip. Not sure if the clip is used on Bs.

I think all had that clip or guide bracket that came from the factory with a choke rod.

Parts books show the Choke Rod Clip Part # 210919 with the #900561 Screw,# 904205 Lockwasher and #900366 Nut on B/IB and C after B-55300
There is also supposed to be a Choke rod return spring #211320 on the carb end of the rod. None of my rods have this spring. It hooks to the Carb Choke Lever. Can't see from the diagram where the stationary end of the spring hooks on past the carb.

The spring makes sense since so many other makes of carburetors have the choke return spring. On most the spring is part of the carburetor and not an added spring. The spring works real well on my Farmall C but you still have to push the choke back in on my Olivers that have the return spring.

They changed it to the pull rod in 1951 when they started making the CA, the gas tank, hood, starter, and all that stuff back there was standardized then.
