What do they typically bring in good condition. Has the 6 way blade and is shuttle shift. The guy said the steering clutches and steering brakes are out of it,but it runs good and will pull itself. I started it up and moved it forward and back. There is one close to me ,but I dont know what they are worth. Any help??

Ya dont see H4's very often.....you do mean an H4 right? D4 is CAT.....we had an H4 when we had the farm, and it was a SUPER lil' machine.....sold it for like 7500 bucks but that was 15 years ago probably.

More so an HD4. Don't think they made gasser. Seen them in the 5-10k range if tracks are good. If not, the tracks could cost you $4k.

IG, They are a power machine for thier size. I love mine. Clutches and brakes not too bad to fix. If undercarriage is good, they will bring up to 10 grand. Make sure torque converter is good. HTH Tracy Martin

Range from $3,000 up to what the buyer is willing to offer. They are not construction machines but industrial line, with about 52 HP rateing. They use the AC 2200 block and did come in gas or diesel, final drives are weak as are the stering clutches if used for haevy work. Lighter and not as strongly built as even the HD5. For home , farm or light grading or landscape work are a nice machine . Yet the newer machines of other brands may sell for less . My FD5 Fiat / ALis is 72 HP machine with 6 way and power shift trany and I have seen them from $11,000 to $20,000 and will do the work of 4 HD4's

I wish I had one too!!!!!!!...but I'd want a track loader for my farm instead of a straight dozer.
Those pictures are of Tracy Martin's HD4. He found it in California if I remember right.

How are track components as to finding for repairs for these? I do know where there is a HD4 loader with a four way bucket for $5500 but the undercarriage needs dire assistance.

Track components, call Ivan at Sumerix Equipment,Lachine Mi. Minn-Parr has some stuff too, but I think Ivan is easy to deal with and has a larger inventory. HTH Tracy Martin

Thats it, I have yet to go 'see' it but they say the rails and pins are shot. If it is decent otherwise and isn't sold, may become mine; only 120 miles from home.

If rails and pins are shot , plan on sprockets, rollers and rebuild on front ideler. Also some other repairs as when they are run down to where they don't work no more there is bound to be more than one thing wrong.

Tom, can you post photos of the ROPS on yours, it may not fit the loader style but I can always modify the end result; pics of the mounting points and the base structure are them main needs I am looking for. Best I can tell, access for the loader is over the back of the seat.

How much issue will I have on getting a new bucket cutting edge or the bucket teeth? Are they more or less universal to other makes? I am going there to look in person at the HD4 loader in a little over a week.

When my Dad put a new cutting edge on my 170 with 517 loader (it was His at the time), He went to a local equipment repair shop. They sold him cutting edge by the foot, He then had a local welder do the welding. Turned out really nice.

Watch it on if it is a ROPS or just a brush guard. A ROPS needs to be certified to hold a certain weight under certain conditions. A home made unit will not rate as ROPS, and the place or type of mount to machine base is critical.
My FD5 has ROPS and plate of certification as does my AC 715B TLB, Mfg of unit has name as well as certification #

Tom's cage looks pretty well made. The factory ROPS were made by UNITOOL. They are out of business. I have one on my HD4, I have modified the way it attaches. I think it is as strong or stronger than it was from factory.I don't have any pics of it here. There was one at Sumerix Equip that had one on it.
