Was chopping corn stalks all Tuesday when I heard a whining noise. Stopped tractor and idled down. Thought it may be a bearing on chopper so drove it to the shop for the night. Got in the shop and noticed at idle the tractor would steer normal to the left but was very hard to steer to the right. I felt the pump and it was very hot but that could be normal I thought. Decided to call it quits for the night. This morning I checked the oil which was good and I started it and all seemed normal then I had to leave for work.

This pump was resealed last spring by the dealer and all new oil and a new filter was installed at the time. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It sounds like flow is going though a relief valve somewhere and causing the fluid to heat up. This would result in a loss of pressure. The steering has more power in one direction than the other because the cylinder has more area on the base end.

Will lift arms lower? Could be TB relief valve.
Hydraulic temp. will run about 100 degrees over outside temperature .         MACK

OK I got a chance today to look it over good. I think the noise I was hearing were the belts slipping on one side of the chopper. I think the reason for the steering turning hard to the right is because, as mentioned, it naturally takes more hydraulic power to turn right and my pump is weak and it shows up when the oil is hot.

When they resealed the pump they told me, after they did it, that it really needed a new pump. I shelled out $2000 for the job which included new hydraulic oil and filter and a new hose to the hydraulic cooler. In hindsight I wish I would have just went without the tractor last Spring and fixed it myself. For a little over $2000 I could have put a new AGCO pump on, replaced that hose and changed the oil and filter myself.

BTW the oil temp at the pump was about 160 after running it a couple hours.
