All good suggestions. Also sliced and grilled onions and bell pepper to go over steak or beef patties. Applesauce is good with bbq chicken. Pork loin with mashed 'taters and green beans. Try some whole boston butt with Brunswick stew and coleslaw. Now that is barbecuing. Sweet potato casserole goes good with chicken or pork ribs.

I really enjoy spaghetti squash cut length wise in half, wrap in Saran Wrap microwave it then flake it up and add butter and Parmesan cheese. To me it would go good with anything.

I like to have potato salad. Ive grilled asparagus and brussel sprouts both have turned out good. Cold 5 bean salad and grilled baked potatoes are teo other must haves. My daughter loves cucumber slices salted and cider vinegar on them as a cold side if i dont eat some when preparing i probly wont get any. Sliced tomatoes seasoned and quickly roasted also go over real well. Get one of those round bowls with holes for doing vegies on the grill you can grill just about any thing
Just spray with butter flavor pam season with loweries. Vegies take a very short time and do them on the indirect side of your grill. |

great jobs ya'll! we do lots of veggies on the grill too. most all include bacon pieces. i've made home made slaw with a sauce i also make...and while it's very tasty, there is a traveling BBQ dude that come to our town every week, and his slaw beats mine all to heck. he said he don't make it...but buys it in a 5 gallon bucket but won't tell me where he gets it. i'll find out...somehow! asparagas and green beans with bacon is pretty hard to beat. but any veggie is. we do steak fries quite often and mashed taters. i just bought a gallon can of beans...gonna make a BIG pot of them, and freeze alot of it. i have all the ingrediants to add to the beans...just gotta do them. been pretty hot in my cook shack this summer...i should have added A/C to it.PfffffT!

My favorite side with any BBQ meat is french bread. Many out here like sour dough San Francisco style which is not bad just I like regular french bread better. Not practical for a small group but cooking for more, melt the butter in a long pan toast the bread then dip it in the pan. Then toast the crust side just a bit to let the butter soak in good. Oh I forgot to say add a bunch of garlic to the melted butter.
All the want to be professional BBQ folks have pans made just a little bigger than the loaf of bread just for the dipping. By far the fastest and easiest when make buttered bread for a crowd. Add green salad and beans and you have all food groups except desert covered. You start with top sirloin, iceberg lettuce, small pink beans, and bread and you have Santa Maria style BBQ.

The area around Santa Maria Calif use to grow pinto beans that had a lot without the spots, some started calling them pink beans. Probably more of a light brown. They take the BBQ real serious and trademarked the name Santa Maria style BBQ. To do it their way you use the local red oak that does not go dormant stays green all year. The bottom part of the top sirloin that they named a "tri tip" (it was the cheaper part before started BBQ ing it). Then the small pinto beans, iceberg lettuce salad, and french bread toasted on the BBQ. All of the beef, beans, salad, and wheat where locally produced. Not so much today, strawberries and wine grapes are their largest crops today.

a couple growers around here plant a few Pinks. the bean company has requests for them every year. They are like small pintos the ones we get are very pink. farmer I worked for had 5 semi trailers full sitting in the shed waiting for space to dump them we had to borrow a few trailers to finish harvest. most farms here plant pintos, navy beans, blacks and soys. a couple quarter sections of each.

I'm making chili right now,,,,, had some of the grandkids up for the weekend and I'm all wore out! We did chicken, pulled pork, bratwurst, wieners, and burgers on the grill. Tato salad, chips, fresh fruit, and LOTS of COLD BEER.....wonderful weekend. I'm going to bed for a couple of days.......the young ones just plain wore me out.
