1969 HD6E S/N 70C22259 with the hydraulic assist steering and brakes. The brakes and clutches are wet type.

This is my first bulldozer and it's definitely been a good learning experience so far.
I got the right brake linkage un-siezed and it steers to the right pretty well now, but I can only get the left side to lock up from a stop. If the dozer is in motion the left side doesn't want to stop. But if I disengage the left clutch and push the left brake before I engage the engine clutch it will steer left.

I believe my brake adjusters are out of adjustment. They didn't turn very far before they stopped turning. The left brake pedal still has 4" of free play and the right has about 2-3/4". I just changed all the fluids and filters in this thing.

I have read and been told about the suction screen in the transmission causing steering issues. But that would effect both sides equally right? Does this sound like a brake or clutch issue?

When the engine driven pump under the fuel injection pump goes bad, it affects one side only, usually. Hold the left clutch lever back without using brake when you disengage engine clutch with tractor in gear. If left track is trying to drive along with right track, the problem IS hydraulic. A chock under right track will make it easier to tell.

Yesterday evening I pulled both clutch levers and engaged the engine clutch and it didn't move. So I assume the clutches are working. Both tracks will drive forward too.

Brake bands breaking is a common fault on the hydraulic assist tractors also. Sounds like you may have a broken one on left side.

Can these brakes be replaced without taking the steering clutches out? I have read that some can and others cannot, but I'm not sure which ones.

The wet brake can't be removed with out taking the stering cluch

As I AM Aware as have a 7G that has done this, now twice.  Getting some other projects out of the way in my shop to start removal.
