I may have wasted 3 hours, 10 gallons of gas, and 450 pounds of wheat last night but atleast I was driving an AC. Used our 1968 170 and a 8 foot Oliver drill to plant 5 acres of cover crop on tobacco patch. It has not rained since the night of July 15th. I can remember the last time it rained because we just finished topping the tobacco and the next morning dad and I were going to go to Paris, IL for the OPOP show. I was so excited either about the rain or the show that I could not sleep. 50% chance of rain Saturday we need it.

Everybody here was worried about the wheat coming up because the dirt is dry. Well, it's up and looking beautiful.
Plant in the dust and your bin will bust! |

It couldn't have been a waste if you were driving your Allis around. That's considered tractor therapy if nothing else. John, when the winds from the west, the fishing's the best.

John: I've always heard "Sow in the dust and reap you must". At any rate it held true for me this year. about a week after I planted my Barley and Timothy it began to rain again, and it's doing well so far.

I always heard, sow your wheat in the dust. Plant your oats in the mud. Usually, the weather in Indiana at those times of the year gave you very little choice to do otherwise, especially with the oats.

Planted some wheat a month ago. It came up good then about a week ago it started drying up and dying. No rain. Just finished planting 500 acres, hope it does better.
