I have driven by the same farm all my life....well today I drove by and noticed the B with belly cultivators on it sitting outside....they drug it out of the barn that fell on it....well I stopped to be nosy as I know the guy who now owns the farm....well we get to talking about it and he points out a WD, a CA and a WD45 Diesel.....and I think its coming home....its ugly, needs rims, but its complete....oily, greasy and a bit rusty....but all there and give me an hour or so and she'll run....whats it worth? He's gonna talk to his dad about all 4 tractors...I only want the Diesel....anyone interested in the others? I'll post prices and pics if I get back down there soon.....wish me luck on buying that Diesel!

Benny, make sure your injection pump is not stuck before you turn it over; one of two parts usually break, one is costly, the other fatal to the pump. Nice find.

thanks for the info....he ran it within the last few years and its under a covered shed so I doubt the engine itself is stuck...if I get it Im not going to try and start it there....I'll bring it home and do it there.

Last I knew running they were in the 3K to 4K range. Like Michael says, remove the injection pump and see if it will turn by hand BEFORE you ever try to turn the engine. If it won't, send it off to Dave Ferguson in Austin MN. If you force a stuck pump to turn, a $750 to $1000 pump rebuild just turned into a $2K to $3K rebuild.

Benny, 45 diesel's can be a real crap shoot. rims are no big deal, grille is no big deal. What to worry about is the engine itself. If it runs, that's a plus, but if you're buying it not running it, there can be a whole host of problems. Granted these are sought after tractors because of the low production numbers, but there are scores of problems that go with the engine as well. I got mine from my dad, so it was free, which you would think is a steal. I had to get another block(400), have the head rebuilt(900), radiator fixed(140), sleeve piston bearing kit(1200?), and then I got busy at work and wanted things done right so I had a guy at a local engine shop that works on alot of tractors rebuild the engine for me so I had his labor also. I am just guessing on prices as it's been a few years and I can't find the receipt. Can't remember all the other incidentals on it, but I know the engine came close to 4500 all together, and that did not include the radiator cost as I took that somewhere else. And that did not include doing anything to the injector pump, and all he did was clean and reset the injectors.
Without your 45 diesel running, so that you can see how well it runs and make sure that it doesn't need repairs, you could be in for alot of extra costs. Regardless, if it has all the diesel specific parts, and you're up for the potential challenge, it could be worth 2000 on up. Bad rims and bad grille discount things a bit, but it's still a 45 diesel and they don't come around often. I would say without starting and running it, 2K would be my top offer. You could luck out, or you could end up with a pile of problems that need fixing

The wife just pulled out the receipt, parts came to 3901.03 and labor which included machining work etc came to 1080. I can break the list down if you want, just want you to be informed as to what you may be in for. My engine was a basket case to say the least, everything that could have been wrong was. But this is the only family tractor that I have left, except my dad bought back his Deutz 4506? this year which was the only tractor he ever bought new. If it would have cost 10 grand to get it fixed, I still would have done it.
