Not sure where this belongs, but have any of you given a thought on how many MILES are put on your tractors/season (in the field)?? I did a "rough" calculation today and was ASTOUNDED  !!

I never worry about field miles but it bothers me about road miles between fields each year.

One harvest back in the 90's my father-in-law drove the 7060 and two wagons hauling corn from the combine to the co-op. He couldn't believe it when I told him he had driven that tractor over 600 miles that fall. Steve

Before we went to our own drying set-up and eventually truck I added all the trips up to town and figured I went the equivalent of driving from northern Michigan to central Alabama towing a wagon that really put in prospective. Dryer and bins showed up soon after.

Tractors don't get many miles anymore-
They got a lot more 'miles', when they were only pulling 3-bottom plows!!!
Son... when I was your age, I'd tee here, and put the ball right over the top of tree with my driver...
Whack... rustle... thud (dammit!) WHAck... rustle rustle... thud... (dammitt!) WHACK... rustle... thud... (ARGH... DAMMIT!!!)
...of course, son... that tree was a whole lot smaller then...

A 3 bottom plow travel 2.06 miles per acer not counting the ends a 15 ft disc travels .55 miles per acer not counting ends

Now WAIT A GD Minute "Victory". How many wagons were you pulling??? Ever thought of hooking the "wagon"( please tell us there were 2 wagons) to your V10 FORD truck ???? Dad pulled 475-500 bushels behind a Ford F250 gasser for 12 years, got a feeling why the boys on AT shun you

Drying system went in just before the V10 so that cut back on the miles it towed. Most of our wagons are in the 300-325 bushel area so I felt one was enough. It isn’t getting it moving it’s getting it stopped timely that bothered me. Even now with a small semi and and straight truck I have a gooseneck hopper bottom that I pull with the V10 in a pinch. That poor truck has done a lot of work in her life.

Sorry Freed, I think I’m to blame for the road miles
Dad bought a 7045 used in 1981. Was our big horse for years. It’s had 1 engine overhaul and the rear tires have been replaced 3 times. It still has the same set of dual wheel tires since 81. Has done some gravity wagon work but not a lot. Our area is pretty flat but the crown on the roads around here can really chew up the inside tires,especially the left one. Hope this clarifies my commit on road mile over field miles
