Has anyone out there ever had to change the injector sleeves in the 649t motor?  I removed one, got the new sleeve and o-rings and now I apparently need a swage tool to install it.  I have tried every avenue I can to find this tool, and it is no longer out there.  I've been to every mechanic,  dealership, and machine shop i can think of to no avail.  If someone has one I would buy, or rent it from you.  Ive been down for 6 months looking for a tool I need for 15 mins.  Any help is welcome!!

Any old A-C dealership that was dedicated to good/great service for their customers had one of those tool kits. There is a reamer to ream the hole in the cylinder head (if the head isn't cracked) and the installation and swedgeing tools for the new updated sleeves. That's where you need to look.  A dealer that used to be an A-C dealer. There used to be a cylinder head repair business in Chapin, Illinois that would be able to do it for you, if they are still in business.  I never installed one sleeve.. Always did all six. Air checked them after they were installed.

Fireman, I don't know where in Michigan you are, but you might try Sumerix. I don't know if they would rent you the tool or not, but you could ask, and if not, they would probably do the task for you if you bring your head in. They are in Lachine, MI, between Hillman and Alpena. If you're coming from the south, wave on your way by!

This subject should go in the "knowledge" section.  Removing injectors on any 7000-10-20, 6060-6080, F2-3-M2-3 combines with the cooper injector sleeves is asking for trouble  !!!!! If the engine runs fine, LEAVE THE INJECTORS ALONE !!

Thanks guys!  I will give them all a try.  I live by Clare so I'm in the middle of them all.  I was surprised Capital Equipment in Clare didn't know.  They used to be the AC dealer here.  The mechanic said he never had to do any.  I rebuilt the motor and now when I start it and it gets to temp. diesel starts pouring out of the sleeve.  I tried lots of things to get it to re-seat to no avail.  Believe me I didn't want to remove it!

Diesel fuel pouring out of the sleeve is an injector body problem, not a copper sleeve problem.  You aren't using any copper sealing gasket on the injector tip are you ??

I had the injector tested and it was fine.  No sealant, I swapped injectors, re-tightened countless times, Tiny amounts at a time, and checked for debris each time.  no change.  which led me to believe it was a sleeve problem.  I was hard to think that was it, but was out of options.

I guess I still do not understand the original problem. The copper injector sleeves are surrounded by antifreeze and can only leak antifreeze, usually into the combustion chamber. This is most often related to someone got the engine HOT due to loose fan belts, dirty radiator, etc.  Once this happens it seems the swedge may loosen up and the coolant starts disappearing thru the cylinder. Wrestling with a rusty/stuck injector body and pulling it out of the cylinder head does the same thing. Fuel leaking isn't a copper sleeve problem. Compression could leak by if it isn't torqued up properly or clean down inside of the sleeve. A valve cover gasket leaking engine oil will run down into the injector sleeve and make it look like the injector is leaking when it isn't. Like I say...I don't unnerstan...

When you say no sealant, you mean no copper washer, right?

I had no other alternative but to turn to this idea.  Right or wrong its out now and I obviously screwed up.  Hindsight is 20/20, It was definitely leaking diesel fuel from the dust cover on the injector when the engine got to temp., was a very obvious stream of it coming from under the dust cover, not the valve gasket, not a loose fuel line, it filled up the space between the injector and the sleeve and then ran over the top and ran all over the ground.

There was no copper washers installed, and no sealant used.  To the guy that posted the dimensions of the tool you are my hero!!  There is a machine shop in town that will make the installer for me!!!  Thank you so much!!!  Each and every one of you!

you need to remove tip and lap both body and tip. Deutz engine were bad about that.

You need to have the instruction sheet as well.  Also it is impossible to have fuel coming from an injector sleeve w/o a cracked inj body or leaking down the drip line - bet is with Doc - it was oil from the valve cover - seen it a hundred times - looks just like fuel.

Those heads were terrible about cracking. They should be pressure tested before being reinstalled. There was a special tool set offered by AC to do this. Midwest cylinder head at Nevada, Iowa or Scheel welding in Cambridge,Iowa can do this I think.

 I'd like to add to our information base. There's another pair of AC engines that were little known and used copper sleeves for the injectors. They were the 61000 & 65000 series V12's. Mainly used for generator applications.  Thumbs Up
