What would cause fuel to leak out the side of the injection pump on an L2 with 426? When I say leak I mean pour. Right at the advance piston plug. The o-ring or gasket is completely gone and fuel is everywhere.

air leak in the suction side of fuel delivery system caused advance piston to rapidly occilate, thus pushing out the advance plug, probably taking housing threads with it. Sorry, I'm not Dr Allis, but thought I could assist as well. I'm sure Dr will have some input also, hopefully a not so costly solution!

Ive had the advance plug come loose, blow the oring and leak badly.  Your lucky if its on the outside, the inside plug it tough to get tightened. If your gettin lots of air like Ed says its gonna be bad, nothing good ever comes from suction side air leakage, most times it will break the advance pin, then the eng is outta time and wont run. Hopefully it a loose plug.   Good luck

Thanks guys. I took it off this morning. Looks like it may have been leaking on both sides. Don't have time to look any further. Had Dad take it to a local pump shop to check it out. Now I'm at work and I'm sure my hands smell like diesel still.

OK, rebuilder said the seals were hard and flat and he thought maybe someone had been running something like alcohol in the fuel. I don't know about that but it had been into before he could tell and the settings were off. He rebuilt the whole thing and I will put it on tomorrow. I did think it was a bit low on power while only running a 15' head.
