I am working on rebuilding a 1949 AC model C. I have removed parts that have metal shims and paper shims. Some of the paper shims are reusable but some are broken. I think the thickness of the paper shims is .005. Is there a source for these paper shims or material I can cut them out of? I am currently working on the Finial Drives and the retainer shims part number 208223. Thanks for any help, Tim

I cut some out years ago... just used brown wrapping paper... have also used white note book paper........... paper is so you dont have metal to metal which may leak.

Paper is paper for that application. Make sure you measure the gear back lash or bearing drag when replacing paper shims. Paper shims are in fact shims and the thickness is important.

The purpose of the paper shims is to keep oil from seeping between the metal shims, when I do not have reusable paper shims , I use gasket cement and adjust accordingly

Thanks everybody for your information. I will try several of these approaches. Another question: Are the terms gasket paper and shim paper used interchangeably? I can find gasket paper which I can try also. Cheers, Tim

In my mind it would be the same thing. There are several types and thickness of gasket paper. I took an engine apart that had gaskets made from Beer cases anywhere there was supposed to be a paper gasket
