What in the world has gotten into these AS% Holes this year ??? There's been several incidents locally, but last night there was a fatalityCry. This morning I heard from a co worker that witnessed the biker passing him in a 45 NO PASSING ZONE(hills) MPH zone doing a MININUM of a 100 Confused. After 25 seconds and cresting the hill, there laid the carcass( and I mean a true carcass) Ouch. Just this evening, I noticed 2 "Harley Dudes side by side, yet they REFUSED to stop at a 4 way stop intersection ShockedShocked. IMO, the motor bike guys are WORSE than the pedaling bikers ShockedShocked. The guys I witnessed this evening were in their 60's, so don't blame it on "youth"Wink.

On the two Harley dudes the vibration and noise had probably deadened their senses. Seriously with the helmet headsets and radios these days they were likely not paying attention to where they were but they should have known better than to ride side by side. The kids on the crotch rockets are usually the ones that wind up as a greasy spot on the road just by being stupid and thinking they are invincible. Picked up far too many during my years with fire/rescue. It was really bad when family showed up on the scene before we could get it cleared.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

never understood the HD mentality of nomufferitis AND the cops don't do a thing about it...
I had 3 bikes when I was younger, got the warwounds from one of them. I still have the bike plate  T0 666.,thought about getting a 4th bike but idiot drivers ,all of them... bicycle, bike, car, semi has cured me of wanting a bike.
What I love are the 'bikers' who haul their 'rides' to Sturgess and think they're true bikers. Meanwhile a friend DROVE his '70 Motoguzzi all the way there and back, twice. Nuther guy I know(retired) got out ONCE last year....as bike insurance is $1000+ that's ONE expensive hour on a brand new bike !!

Jay, the guy that got passed by the biker and later (45 seconds)at the bottom of the no passing hill said half of his face was gone (the "guy" attempted to render aid), both of his feet were behind his head, his arms were all over the body and the head was pretty much looking over the body's shoulder blades Confused. The official police report is that the biker hit a stopped car waiting to turn left at the bottom of the NP hill, got thrown off and landed onto an oncoming car Ouch, sad for sure, but ???

Not out to start a fight, but the motorcyclists are like every other classification of people out there: For every one of them that makes a bad name for them, there are 500,000 good ones. Example, my wife thinks that every truck driver out there is out to kill her when she's driving (and I am a truck driver myself, LOL). But, for every truck driver that cuts her off, or passes her in a snow fog, or whatever else she thinks is bad, bad, bad, there are another half million drivers out there that don't hurt her. Another example, a certain movement in this country thinks that every law enforcement officer in this country is a racist murderer, when in fact, I believe that 99+% of them have the best intentions at heart. Point being, don't let a few bad apples ruin the bunch. And, no, I am not a cyclist, but I am not opposed to them either. Darrel

Well said Darrel.
I fit both of those groups. I am a truck driver and a motorcyclist.
The same can be said about idiots in cars.

Have to agree Darrel, I am one of those that obeys laws as to riding or driving. Freedguy may have well stated EVERY Auto driver out there including himself is a threat to humanity by being distracted. Is actually closer to one in 10,000 riders in the US are idiots, wheelies, running thru stopped traffic(Lane Splitting), doing road race performances on two lane roads as if no one else is around. Others as many of my friends ride for the enjoyment of being in the wind, on two and enjoying life not challenging it. Have to deal with 'Cagers'(Auto drivers inside a box) that do NOT pay attention that drive nearly autonomously and with total disregard to their surrounding motorists.

There have be quite a few of them culling themselves out of the herd around here locally this year as well.  Just recently one of them started to pass a combine in a no passing zone just as the combine made a left turn, the combine driver never even knew he was hit. Another just was going too fast for a curve and tangled with the guard rail. One failed to stop at a RR crossing and for some reason laid it down on the tracks just before the train arrived. All of the accidents I've read about involve excessive speed, failure to observe traffic laws and often alcohol and or drugs. Stupidity kills, just not fast enough
Those that ride motorcycles and have a brain are cautious and ride with the knowledge that there is nothing to protect them in a collision.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Darrel said it well.

Is it dangerous? Yep. Are some of them loud? Yep.(and can be a beautiful sound at the same time!) Is it expensive? Yep. Practical? Not usually. . ..

But boy do I wish I had another one. Finally got a Harley in 2006. Had to sell it a few years later in a financial crunch. Went down on an unfamiliar curve in the rain, broke my ankle, got it up out of the ditch and road it home the 30 miles.

Do I miss it? Yep!!!

Thank you Darrel !!!

I have had motorcycles on and off for 50 years. My present "bike" has a radio, factory exhaust, saddle bags, etc.  A lot of my riding now is with one of my grandkids on the back, so I don't take stupid chances.

Luckily, in 50 years of riding, I have never gone down. I have never been stopped by police while riding a motorcycle.

I don't much appreciate being classified as an "A--hole because I responsibly ride a motorcycle, no more than I would being classified as something like that because I collect tractors.

In my area in the last week, we've had two bike accidents, both riders were 60+, and both went off road after rounding a curve.  One became a fatality.
I know from when I had a bike, curves are the most dangersous part of riding (other than traffice not paying attention).

I am getting my bike ready for sale. I haven't used it for three years and at 81 I probably wont again. Maybe get an e-bike for around town and some of the hiking trails.

Despite providing less than 1% of miles driven, they made up 15% of traffic deaths in 2012. Since about 2004 over 4,000 people have died every year up to 2014 in motorcycle accidents, and in 2007 and 2008 deaths exceeded 5000 per year.

5000 DEAD per year is basically  15 accidents in the USA everyday..
-------------------------

There were 33,654 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2018 in which 36,560 deaths occurred. This resulted in 11.2 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.13 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.

7 TIMES as many people get killed in a CAR accident... but there are a LOT MORE cars and miles driven in them.

Just saw a neat video, on youtube, that covers the topic nicely.  Unfortunately, it has rather explicit lyrics, so rather than posting it as a video, I will attach a hyperlink, which you must click on, at your own risk!  Don't blame me, I warned you!Wink

I've rode moto bikes for 50 years.  There are idiots on bikes, idiots in cages, idiots on tractors, idiots, well, just plain a lot of idiots out there.  I've had my fair share of drops, run-ins with idiots in cages, truck drivers (which I'm a retired driver), ag equipment operators, etc.  I won't call everyone that operates a tractor an idiot, nor a car, nor truck, etc.  BUT, they are out there.  Don't lump me in with a jackass rider.  I'm proud to be a motorcycle rider, I enjoy it, and hate idiots riding like a fool.  I just plain don't have time or room in my life for idiots, and don't refer to myself or fellow enthusiast as AHoles.....  I'm a Harley Dude.....  And an Allis Dude, dude....

Can relate to NDB, truck driver, auto driver, HD Motorcycle owner, ran boats for years and worked on Mississippi river tow mechanicals. Bigger the machine on the water the more given right of way, trucks should be the same.

I guess I fall into the 50 years of riding group if you include my 1970 Honda 50 Mini Trail as part of that. Got four bikes currently. Three Hondas and a Yamaha. I almost always ride by myself. I have enough to worry about with other cage drivers and don't want to worry about another riders skills riding near me. The last group ride I ever went on we stopped at a gas station and the ride captain walked out with a tall can of beer. That was it for me. Idiots drive and ride amongst us.
