I am looking at a j-bar spd72 finish mower online. Do any of ya'll have any experience on these? Wondering about maintenance/repair issues.

I have had a finish mower for 12 years. At ten years I replaced the belts for the first time. I have not had any trouble with it. Has a cast iron gear box but I do not know the brand. I am satisfied with mine.

Looks like an off line, perhaps local to your area. If the price is right, and you are handy, might make a go of it. I like bush hog, myself, rear discharge keeps the clippings, out of your hair, and down your shirt pockets, on a windy day!

It's about 80 miles from me.Going to look at it tomorrow.
I have an old woods RM59 now but it is very heavy, and I'd like the extra foot to get it closer to the outside of the tractor wheels. |

My Woods lasted 20 years and was still going when I decided to sell and get a new mower. I know the ones with the channel going across the top of the mower that hold the casters are not a good choice. All of them I have seen at auctions had the casters pointing out every which way. The channel they use is not strong enough for the application. As was previously posted, you will be a lot happier with a rear discharge mower.

My old Woods is about a 1983 model. It is the one that has the big fly wheel belt pulley. It has been a pretty good mower, but hard on belts. It only has the 2 casters on the rear, and the front is adjusted by the third arm for height. Any how,I bought the j-bar and have to do a little spindle work, and hopefully it will do the job.
