I hit clay about 3ft down. It sunk fast we had the 160 on and wont move it and a 185 the ground is too soft to pull me out. I have a buddy with a jd 450 dozer coming over to tomorrow try. The spin marks in the back ground are from the 160 with ring chains on. I was only sinking about a inch or 4 up til this point I found a spring.

Friend of ours buried a 966 Int'l a few years back, same thing was running in 'soft' ground then the bottom fell out at a spring or sinkhole; they had the tractor so deep you walked off from the cab floor, took a D-8 to get it out!!

i have seen 80 ton dozers stuck to the cab.. i can tell you the mud suction is hard to overcome. if you have a backhoe, you can dig out behind or in front of it and build somewhat of a ramp upward. thats the only way to get some of them out. if no hoe, you can use a bucket or small dozer to make a couple passes and take out 2 feet to get a start. everything helps when your in that deep.

Kip, it looks like the spring needs to be cleaned out, so while you're in there now would be the best time

Be careful not to break it when you pull it out with the dozer.

Yep, that there be stuck. I think you should try digging around it with the dozer(make sure you don't get it stuck too) before you start yanking on it, or you'll break somethin good for sure!

Yup, your in pretty good, not real bad yet like where the top of the hood is going under.
Whats out front? More swamp or harder ground. If its terra firm heading forward the take a good beam and lay under the loader and raise the front end up as high as possible, (by lowering the loader). Next dig the mud from the wheel tracks and some from under the belly. Then lay couple more timbers under the front wheels back to in front of the rear tires, being sure to leave them in a ramp fashion.
then hook on and Give a good pull. have used cable on tires to walk out on but then let a couple #s air out so cables will tighten in center of tire face.

Dang that hole is wetter than our ponds. Only thing you can sink in that deep around here is dust holes where we had a D7 clearing a fence row last week and he had to dig holes as deep as his hood to get the big trees to fall over.

Wow!!!! Thanks for posting pic Kip.Good luck and be safe. There are probably not a lot of guys who would ever post a pic about a mishap on here.(Me for one)LOL,Just kidding, glad to see i am not the only one who had a bad monday.Went to change a lower element on a water heater today.Turned valve off on top of heater.Checked faucet in bathroom to make sure hot was off.Screwed element out and water started spraying out full pressure.Could not get element to go back in.Turns out valve was on hot side and the cold feed was still on.Had to hold element in place with water shooting out until utility could shut main off.Took them 15 min to show up.Customer(little old lady)could not get in crawl space and she couldn't hold it while I found shutoff. No one around, nieghbors unable to help. She turned everything on and pressure lowered but still sprayed out pretty good.Needless to say lots of water damage.Cleaning service was setting up as I left.Boss was not happy.Valve was on a horizontal pipe and I did not notice it was on pipe exiting heater.Who ever installed put the valve on wrong side.AAARRGGGHHHH !!!!!!!!

One of the few things I learned in the Army, other than don't volunteer, was getting a tank unstuck. Used this to get a stuck Cat
D-6 free from a silt hole on the railroad in Rouses Point, NY. Fastened a heavy hardwood plank to the rear of the tracks with short chains, put the dozer in reverse and it pulled the plank under with the dozer rising up out of the muck. Be careful. Bob@allisdowneast |
