I have a 1953 WD that has a drop bucket that only rises. When the clutch is released, the bucket goes up until its maxed out. The valve was recently rebuilt to try and solve the issue. Fluid is full, rams are operational and all the linkages are hooked up. Been reading though a service manual but all it says is the hold valve is the problem. Any ideas? Thanks

The hydraulic pump only works when the foot clutch is released on a WD45. MACK

Put the tractor in neutral, running and try the lever. Does the bucket go up and down?
Are you using the lever on the left side of the steering wheel? Up to the top makes the bucket go up and down to horizontal makes it go down. Moving the lever slowly makes the bucket and the rear lift arms go slowly. With the lever in the middle position, it should lock (hold) the bucket and arms in that position until you either raise or lower the lever. I hope this is clear for you and not as clear as mud for you. |

When you say the valve was rebuilt, do you mean you pulled the pump off the tractor and went through it? Or is it a remote valve that is not original to the tractor?

When the clutch is released, the bucket only goes up will not lower or hold with the left lever full down. The left lever connects to the hold valve which is what was rebuilt. I'd post pics but they're too big to post. I pulled the pump off after posting to find one of the lobes broke (the spinning part). I assume this would cause the issue? Thabks

Your pump has ingested some of the iron, sticking the control spools. A massive job of cleaning the oil cavity and throwing a cow magnet inside is in order.

Any advice on where to find parts and what to use to clean and replace the fluid with? I'm seeing that SAE 20 oil is recommended.

There are adjustments to the controls on the pump. One setting is for a mounted plow with Traction Booster, which does not have a hold position, the other has a hold position.

Your local Agco dealer should have the parts. Find the roller assembly at a salvage yard. They are pricey at Agco dealer. MACK
