 Topic: Injector leak

My 1986 190XT has #2 cylinder injector leaking fuel at the fuel line connection at the top of the injector. The fuel line nut seemed a little loose, so tightened it about 1/8th of a turn and still leaks. Is the fuel line nut just a metal to metal seal or is there an o ring under the nut?

There's a rubber sleeve under the nut the squashes out to seal..

Theres a rubber O ring in that cap. they detieroate over time and can leak, Agco price is 4.50 @ piece, a common diesel shop price is .30 cents,

The guy I bought the tractor from did tell me an injector was leaking and the sale came with a bag of o rings for the injectors. Seems this should be an easy fix.

My comment about an easy fix was a bit premature. Expected the o rings to be pretty hard, but took an hour to get one out. It came out in tiny pieces. Used an o ring pointed seal remover. Is there some trick to getting them out a bit faster than an hour each?

The seal in the return line nut is a rubber sleeve, not an oring. The 190 has a flare on those line ends that won't let the nut slide off. Later series of engines didn't have the flare (not really needed) and you could slide the nut off and remove the old sleeve easily. I usually just burn them. Once the rubber catches fire,it comes out quite easily. You could also file or grind the flare to allow the nut to come off.

Seems like some are harder/stiffer than others. Sometimes I've used a tapered punch to stretch them out a little and then slide them on. Hot water for sure will make them more pliable.

Used a small propane torch and melted out the grommets. New grommets are on the way.
