 Topic: Gleaner Model C

Picked this Gleaner Model C up here in Australia. Has been in the original owners shed for 40 years. Apparently the family imported directly from the US back in 1966 bypassing local dealers. Has many NOS spares. Serial number is C-4983. Would anyone know the year it was made as information I have found online doesn't match up? It looks to have a few different options to photos of C's & CII's I have seen online.

The flags are for safety when moving oversize loads here in Australia. Helps on coming vehicles see the widest point of the load. Photo was taken yesterday after it was dropped off from tilt truck. I had to pilot the truck as an escort as it was over legal limit. The load was 16ft wide and 16ft high on the truck!

Thanks for the information and interest. Certainly happy to have come across this machine. Plan to have it running at my harvest day when we have our next cereal crops in JAN next year. It also came with the original Gleaner trailer which I was amazed how good a condition it was. Had been in the shed next to it for the past 40+ years. Just needed some better tyres. Cheers, Richard

Congratulations! That’s a great looking setup. It’s header is 16’ wide? Bonus on the trailer!! Does the trailer have front & rear jacks to allow it to stand alone for loading/unloading headers? I’ve never seen a Gleaner trailer. But figured the custom wheat harvesters (Texas-Canada) might have driven combine with header trailer behind combine en route between fields?? If that was the case, upon unhooking the header trailer, it would require supports to stay level while combine removed header to start & dropped off header when finished.
Your model C was offered 1960-63’. Your C is a 1963 & nearly the last made. The 1963s C serial numbers began @ C3870. The 1964 CII began @ C5001.
Header sizes offered were 14-20’ & 4 row cornhead, 60 bushel grain tank, 40” wide cylinder, AC(buda) 6 cylinder 262cu in 93hp gasoline engine.

Thanks for the reply & info. It has a 14ft front with overhang it measured 5m or about 16ft on the truck so it was a decent load to move about a 1 hour drive. The trailer has a front jack that along with the single axle might just be enough to steady it so the front can be removed. It is very solid and well balanced. I didn't know any of the US manufactures made trailers back in the 60's so I was shocked when I saw the Gleaner tag on the trailer. In Australia headers (combines) are driven on the roads a lot towing the trailer behind when moving a long distance. On short moves the trailer is just pulled with a ute (pick up). I assume it would be the same out west for your guys. Thanks for year. 1963 makes sense, they might have had a big production run at the end of model C and had some sitting around at Dealers for a year or so before this one was purchased and shipped to Australia.
