 Topic: D15 Spark Plugs

Recently purchased a 1961 D15 that is running fine. I was going to replace the spark plugs but when I removed one it was not the ones recommended in the manual (Autolite 86). The manual says either AL A-7, Champion J-8, or A.C. 45. Neither of these cross over to an AL 86. Are these AL86 better or is there some reason they were used instead of the ones recommended in the manual? Thanks

Talk to the previous owner who put it in. A couple of years ago I bought a D17 with 4 different brands and models of plugs. Go ahead and replace all 4 plugs with one of those models stated in the manual.

I ran Autolite 85s in my D15. That’s what Autolite recommends.

I've only used Autolite in farm tractors the last 27 years. Had to many problems with Champion. AC is a good plug but was more expensive from my vendors

Champion J-8 might cross to Autolite 295, thats what I use in a D15 gas

295 is the crossover to a J8. Definitely not an equivalent because Autolite's actually work where Chimpanze's don't. LOL! Steve@B&B

Autolite 295 are what I'm running in my 1961 D 15 also . Got them from Steve . 🙂

Back in that time frame Autolite was part of Ford. Autolite A7 became the Motorcraft A7C after Ford sold off Autolite.

For what it's worth, I had a problem with my WD45 and couldn't get ANY plugs to stay working in it. I tried the AC 45C the Autolite 295, etc., etc. and finally tried the NKG equivalent....can't remember the number off hand but the tractor has performed flawlessly for over a year of working . Needless to say, I won't go back to the standard plugs any time soon

I have had NGK brand in several engines,---they seam o.k. --first encounter with them was in my 3-wheeler and dirt bike. They held up to that hard use well.
