Looking to buy a sherman under drive transmission, found an overdrive, the seller
says you can switch gears to make it an under drive. is he correct? Ive read other posts where that cant be done, just wondering whose right.wd45tim |

To my knowledge, there were two companies that made overdrive/underdrive units for WC/WF/RC tractors. One was Sherman and the other was Heisler. I too have heard that gears could be switched around, but don't know that to be fact. I'm sure you (back in the day) could have purchased the different ratio gears to install them into a gearbox already in service, but to just switch around existing gears, I'm not so sure. The literature provided on that website makes no mention of being able to so such a thing. If that was true, why would they have had two different pieces of literature?? They would have had one piece of advertising calling it an "under-drive and an overdrive", just switch the gears around like changing sprockets on a corn planter.
