As someone who does not own one of these engines (D262 or D175) yet, I would like to know if there are any parts that are hard to find for them. Are parts more expensive compared to other diesels (like the 301)?
I would like to have this knowledge before I consider buying one (but probably will anyway).
I appreciate everyone's feedback.

I have rebuilt a few 262's and the parts a readily available. about the most expensive engine to rebuild is a 262 turbo out of a D19. I did price these rebuild kits and a 2800 is in the ball park. A 262 Diesel is $800.00. A 262 turbo Diesel is $1000.00 and a 2800 is $900.00. All these kits don't include bearings.

Thanks Matt, I assume this would also be the case for the 4 cylinder 175 engines ...

I'm building a 262d in a D17 right now. It's not so much the parts that's expensive, it's all the machine work that goes into the block and head so they run trouble free. You can figure about $200 per hole for sleeves and pistons from AGCO. Main bearings were $140, I forget right off what the rods were. I have right about $1K in getting a better block than I had and then having the counterbores re cut and surfaced so it will hold a head gasket long term. I was lucky in that my head was in good condition. Having cracked heads repaired gets expensive quick.
I should add that the 175 is basically a 262 missing 2 cylinders. Sleeves and pistons are the same. If you're looking at one to buy and plan to overhaul, be prepared to spend a good $4K to do it right. I've also done a lot of research and have many of the machine specs straight from the original blue prints at AGCO.

Brian-I have a 262D Turbo rebuild that I am going to start shortly. Who is doing your machine work? I would like to send my block and heads to a place that really knows what they are doing.
Thanks.

My D17 SI ate a valve guide last spring and really did a job in #4 hole. Could not afford to rebuild the engine complete so it got a new Piston/Sleeve and a head rebuild. Parts were readily available, but expensive. Have over $1,000 into it ($700 for the head rebuild), would have been more than $4,000 with complete engine kit and machining the crank and block. It starts and runs just fine now.
Did find out that there are 3 versions of the D262 Buda Head, so have your engine S/N handy when getting the machine work done.
