Let a fella borrow my Log Splitter I built some years back. Worked fine on the old 180, 2000 psi hyd and 12gpm was great, he put it behind Ferd with 3500psi hyd, his step son in law tried to bust a 'Y' overpressured it and sprung the push plate floor table. He then commenced to try to weld it to make the screw up prettier only to fully lock the table down to the slide by bowing it further. Got off my butt today unbolted the mess, cut away the push plate and replaced the 1/2" floor with a section of a 1" thick cutting edge I have, harder, more solid I HOPE, and all back together. Also trimmed the back pedestal for upper link clearance. SHOULD outlast Me!!

Good repair job. Going to let that fella borrow it again now that you have it fixed?  I am particular about who I lend my tools and equipment to because of that same problem . They screw it up and then try to cover it up. Got a few friends that I gladly lend to because they always return my stuff in better condition than it was when they borrowed it.

You can cut down on the number that borrows it by asking for a $500 deposit until returned in good condition.😀

Heck I'm IMPRESSED someone USES a folding tape measure !!!  It's got be an antique cause I've not seen one in a long,long time.

If some one wants to barrow my wood splitter I go with it at a cost $45.00 a hour including travel time. Loaned it out once years ago and it came back with fire damage, found out later that the person left it to close to a brush fire. That cost me quite a bit of money to repair back to working condition.

It may get sold now that is fully functional and we no longer have a wood fueled heat source. And NO it will NOT be loaned or allowed borrowed again.

Got two of them that I still use occasionally if I have to measure for a counter top. About the only way I can get an accurate inside measurement. I think most building supply/hardware stores still carry them.

Think I have three of the rules, Old welder/mechanic aspect I have NOT lost yet and still available in most HDWE Stores. I still have one that has the Brass extension in the first Six inch length.

I have a splitter almost like yours. been good to me for about 40 sum years. mine has an adjustable back plate and the wedge is on the cylinder. I also use it with my 180D. never had anything it couldn't split, once I told someone that if it wouldn't split something I could turn it a 1/4 turn (the wood) and cut thru it! he said BS, so I turned the wood chunk sideways and cut thru it like I said it would! lol...mine is hooked direct to the tractor hyd's, and i'm using a cylinder off a Cat road grader. never had to do anything to it yet as for fixing. they were made somewhere in KS. it was new when I bought it on a church benefit auction. I pretty sure yours and mine will outlast us! and I too do not loan it out, if someone wants wood split, they can bring the wood to me, i'll be glad to help!

Construction Electricians use them, when running conduit, but they use what we called "inside readers", because the markings on the outside, when closed, from putting in and removing from your pocket.
