Dad and I will be retrofitting 6 gauge wire for 4 gauge from the breaker box to the FF axial fan/heater unit tomorrow, were advised to "dip" the ends into grease ?? The 4 gauge wire is braided aluminum. Is this something special or can I put a few "pumps" of bearing/suspension type grease on the wires ?? Thanks

Noalox (sp) is a special grease used on aluminum wire to prevent corrosion especially when connected to a different metal. Chassis grease might help a little but is not recommended. Is the 6 guage wire copper or aluminum? Make sure you have enough wire capacity to carry the current load or you are asking for trouble. I won't use aluminum wire unless I have to do so.

The 6 is copper but have been informed that the 6 gauge/60 amp breaker is the "minimum" combo for the 220/ single phase motor. Dad has 100' of "primary"wire that was pulled down from a previous project (2 blacks and a bare ground) that we will utilize 30' of the black wires and utilize 1 of the 6 gauge wires for a ground/neutral.

Called Dielectric Lubricant. Used it with plug and play lighting on trucks, minimizes corrosion, maximizes clean contact, resists breakdown from heat and precludes much of the electrolysis action(Making a battery) between two dissimilar metal types, usually Tin or Tin Soldered Brass or Copper and Aluminum.

Noalox is s brand name. What is called is anti-oxidating grease/paste is required when terminating aluminum (AL) wire. Never allow copper (CU) and aluminum wire touch/come in contact.
The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires that AL wire be one size larger than CU. From my experience of repairing problems with AL wire I think I would go two sizes larger, especially if the wire is being pushed to maximum limit. Best thing, don't use AL wire, I've seen a lot of problems with it. But it is used a lot without a problem.

Triplex Feeder line can only really get in AL, then there is Primary wire, I only use Copper and 12 ga as often as possible for 120V, 4, 6, 8 ga for 240v circuits

I have done this several times, but I go ahead and replace all 3 wires with the old black covered primary... I spray paint the last 3 ft of one wire WHITE to mark it as ground.  Feed to outbuildings, feed to welder, temp service.  Works fine. I have never used any grease, but recheck torque on the lug nut ends every 5 years.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

As the others have stated use a anti oxidant compound. Brands such as noalox, penetrox,ox guard will all work. There are alot of others as well and its not very expensive. You can find it hardware stores, electrical supply stores, or the building supply places.
Here in FL we are able to get copper triplex. We use it in the corrosive beach environment..
Also here with the harsh conditions we use the grease on the threads of anything you want to try to loosen later....

Avoid AL wire if possible.  A lot of problems with it.   Wire will loosen up on terminals over time.
