    Posted: 18 Sep 2010 at 10:21am
I was wondering if anyone had seen a place where I could get the decal that they put on the back of the window in the cab of the later to last Allis-Chalmers tractors.

As stupid as it sounds I would like to get one to put on the back window of my truck.

Like the one on the tractor below.

I like it! Unfortunately, my pick up has a sliding rear window. Maybe someone makes smaller ones.

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

Mine is the sliding rear also. I've been trying to think of a way to make something like that work.

I wonder how they got this one to work. It looks good on the sliding window.

It was actually a stencil (paint) on the glass.  I would like to put it back on my 8010 window, too.  There is a white Allis-Chalmers sticker for the Gleaner combines that looks to be the same dimensions, maybe someone could have it converted to a stencil so we could put the logo on glass.

Would most people want the decal or the painted stencil?

I would want the stencil, because a decal would make washing the window difficult, plus would tend to peel loose when washing.

Russ do you have any idea what color of paint was used?  It almost looks like a light grey?

It's also painted on the inside of the window so the stencil would have to be made like a mirror image if apply on the inside.

When it was new and clean it was a brighter shade of white.  I'd lean toward AGCO New White for my first try.

A premium vinyl decal will not peal at the car wash. Most decals bought at shows from trailer vendors and off of the internet are intermediate vinyl and will peel from glass very easy.

I have been in the vinyl sign business for 14 years and have seen several vendors selling the cheap vinyl at shows, I offer both quality of vinyl to my customers and explain the difference to them.  Intermediate vinyl is for temporary decal work and premium (which is a high quality and higher cost) is for long term use (up to 10 years outdoors).

Paint on glass will not stick well at all and will flake off at the car wash easily.

As for the decal on the back of the sliding glass window, It is easy to do. You just get the measurements of the sliding part of the window and the total width of the window and any sign shop can make the decals in sections or you can just get one decal and tape it on the window and use a razor knife to trim it to fit.

split51, I have a class C motor home with the window in the crow's nest over the cab. I'd like to remove and plug it but not sure about sealing the Filon.

How would it be to just cover it with a decal?

Thanks,
Dusty

Dusty. I am not sure I understand what you are asking.  From what I read, you are asking if the vinyl will seal the full sheet of Filon.
I googled what Filon is and came up with what is posted below. From what I understand, it is already a sealed product. If you are refering to the edges that meet up with the body of your RV, then no, Vinyl will not fill a gap because it needs a surface behind it or can be torn if something pushes against it.  If you are wanting to seal the edge, I would recommend an outdoor caulking. You would need to talk to a hardware store to determine which caulk would be the best for your application.

Filon is made by Kemlite Corporation, which is the largest frp manufacturer in the world and are located in Illinois.  Filon is a durable semi-rigid gel coated exterior FRP [Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester] resin material.  It comes in 3 shades of white and 1 shade of gray which the color is all through the product.  Our color is the most popular color used in the RV industry, Polar White.  The most common grades come in .040 and .060 thickness and in 8' wide rolls up to 500' long.  The Filoplate gel coated surface is highly scratch, abrasion and dent resistant with excellent weathering characteristics.  The maximum allowable bend radius is 7" or greater.  Maintenance requires washing with liquid detergents and if you wish to wax, you can use automotive or marine waxes or use cleaners developed for use on fiberglass boats, showers and tubs.  All of your high end RV's use Filon siding.  I requested a technical data sheet from Kemlite and they mailed me a sample card of Filon and lots of great information.  I've also made numerous phone calls to the factory techs and asked many questions.  Other sources of information was acquired from Walt's RV and Mr. Bob Evans, a veteran Teardrop builder and High School shop teacher in San Bernardino, CA who's students build Teardrops as a class project.
