On the torque tube there are 4 bolts that had been holding on the battery box.  They have points on the bolt.  A 3/8" nut fits on loosely but a 3/8" bolt will not fit in the threads.
 
What's the story?  Anybody have an extra?

I have never had a problem using standard 3/8" bolts in those holes. Run a tap in the holes to clean them up.

Probly has a starter like my one 38 B. Not when I bought it but does now. One of these days it will get foot brakes as well. OR, OR it could have been one of those new Chinese retro fit deals with metric threads.  Or Or I might be trying to be funny.

When you update a 38 with parts from newer tractors or put a good 38 tranny in  a later model B you have a AC B. The year don't mean much. Probably more Bs out there that are pieced together than stayed together. We had to swap out some major components on Gary's 38 but we managed somehow to locate good 38 vintage components including the engine block and both final drive assemblies to keep it as original and as 38 as possible. The SN numbers don't match exactly but they are very close.

   After reading a Email from Les in Point Blank TX and reading this post, I'm not sure what he has.

Ken, find me a block for my 38 B254. LOL  It has a 39 block in it now. That's the way I bought and it will stay that way as long as it runs OK. I do have the cast wheels to put on her when I get some leftover green to get rims tires and wedge bolts.

Those bolts with points on them are automotive boby bolts. they will rethread any hole you out them in. most likley a metric thead. you  need to either retap to a 3/8 or get bolts from a auto junkyard.

     We still have the original block from 38 B #751.  It has the all to familiar cracks between the cylinders and a  recent attempt to braze a hairline crack above the drain cock made that situation a bit worse. The casting # ends in a 9. Gary can give you the SN if your interested.
     Gary in Longview is really the man to talk to about this block and he has been there and done that with new front rims and new wedge bolts. It ain't as simple as it sounds.

Actually I think I have good usable rims. There is 1 or 2 of the original bolts with the rest being carriage bolts.
