My 7020 grinds going into gear cold. What is the appropriate way to adjust the transmission brake?

I have loosened the clamp on the clutch cable and pulled out all the slack and it still grinds. Am I not adjusting it properly, or is the trans brake bad?

My 8070 has always tried to grind cold. I just wait a little longer to try and shift it. I think it might be normal. Warmed a little and it's fine.

I'd think it was normal, except my 7040 will stop the tractor if it is in gear and I push the clutch pedal to the floor. It never grinds, as long as I push the pedal to the floor.

Replace the ends on the cable and maybe the cable. If there is to much wear in the ends it'll grind

Replace pivot bushing and pin. Make sure there is not a thick rug under clutch pedal.        MACK

On my brother's 7030 the pin and bushings didn't look bad but after I replaced them the problem was solved. That's where I'd look next.

How far is the spool supposed to come out of the valve body when fully depressed? Pivot bushing is tight.

There's no rug in the cab, so that's not the problem.

Whenever I repaired a trans brake complaint, it was ALWAYS replace the two fork pivot bushings and the ball joint on the end of the cable, spray WD40 all over everything and adjust the cable to proper length (pull hard forward on the cable and tighten the U-bolt). If you still have trouble after doing all that, there is potentially a warped clutch disc/plate or tranny brake issue.

Previous owner said that he replaced the bushings a bit over a year ago. They feel tight.

Adjust the cable 1/8" TIGHTER yet. May have to use a prybar of some sort. Oil everything.

I adjusted it 1/8" shorter so that the fork was actually moving the plate on the spool a bit and there's no change.

I guess I'll live with it for a while then. Just wanted to rule out adjustment as the culprit first. It works fine once it is warmed up.
