    Posted: 08 May 2019 at 11:31pm
Old gal has decided I need a new pickup. Who am I to argue with logic like that? We goes to Menards tonight and right across the street is the Dodge dealer. They were closed when we stopped, but saw some good looking red pickups. Sorta thought the Chevy dealer down the road might be open. Drove down and thru the lot. Lots of 2016-17-18-19 pickups.    Old gal Sorta lost interest in pickups when she spied a 1/2 dozen new Corvettes. Guys there ain't no way that old gal is gonna get in or outta a vette.   Sure was glad it got too dark to see much. Folks that picked up my planter were driving a 05 or 06 duramax, 4 door, 8' box. Sorta seems to be the type I'm looking for. I didn't see any Dodges on the lot similar. I Sorta hate to get rid of my 1/2 ton. Its only got 230000 miles on it. I usually put 300000+ miles on them before I gives them to the boys. 1 new Chevy pickup that I thought was mud fence ugly had a 71000.00 price tag on it. Is rather drive a red tractor than that ugly thing.

Tom,
No love for the FORD family? Better take a look at those, just to say you did a through search. That 6.2 gas is supposed to be real good and the 6.7 is a good engine too.
Better keep the wife away from the Corvettes. Hard to haul things with those!
Regards,
 Chris

What I am seeing on the used lots does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling as to the longevity of the last ten years of builds. None of the makes stands out as a long term investment and buying the junk used is not sending good vibes either.

Sugarmaker. Absolutely no fords for me anymore. I owned a tire shop for 22 years. We started out using fords for farm tire service trucks. I was the operator in most cases. I spent more money replacing motors, transmissions, torque converters, starters, tow bills, etc. They were both diesel and gas. We then found a used 1 ton Chevy with a 6.? Diesel. I ran that 300000 miles and only replaced the brake pads and tires. My last ford purchase was a nicelooking 3/4 ton with a 7.3 diesel. Tranny cost me 3000.00 to fix, several weeks later the motor took a dump. Ford wanted $10000.00 to fix it. They would not let me have my truck back until they did all the ford recalls on it. These are just a few of the bad experiences I have had with ford trucks. I have never had those experiences with GM or Dodge. Don't get me started on Toyota.

Looked at 2 this afternoon. Really liked the Dodge till I looked under the hood. Had a 3.7 V6 there. Needing an 8 cylinder to pull this toy hauler the old gal bought. Chevy 4 door, 5.3 auto, bright red so I can find the darn thing in a parking lot. Set up to pull a trailer. Gonna keep looking. Boss said he bought a dozen off another dealer comming in next week.

In Sept. 2017 I bought a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi with 32224 miles for $15000. Has 63000+ on it now.
In 2009 I bought a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 V8 with 27000+miles for $11,500. Has 319000+ on it now.
Both have been good to me with few repairs and are perfect for my usage.
Both were bought from the Fastenal company.

Go ahead and buy an overpriced new truck. When the electrical gremlins and computer malfunctions start, you’ll have plenty to complain about. Why can’t someone just build a basic truck at a reasonable price? Most of the fancy features on today’s new truck are totally unnecessary and just something that the advertising people have convinced the brainless they need to have.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

You can't get a new truck up here that reads MPG !!! So much for 'computerz'... I get 3-5 emails daily about the newest automotive 'electronics' and it's really, really scary. OK the 'tech' is nice BUT no increase in MPG and $$$ to replace the dud computerz. One company boast a computer in the LED headlights to automatically control the 'light spread'..sigh.
Dodges seem to rust out the fastest here, chevy wheel lips due to 'foam' used as glue, and aluminum PU ?? well that's just bad unless it's a real Land Rover !! I'd like an old Ranger sized PU, cab and 1/2 NOT some $$$! 4wd ,4dr, 4' boxed PU !

Talk about gadgets. Wife totaled her car so we picked up a new Toyota. I drove it the other day and the dang thing has radar built into the cruise control. If you come up behind another car or if a car moves in front of you the radar will see it and will slow down the car for you. If they move out of your way the cruise will go back up to your set speed.

Lord help me if it gets struck by lightning.😳

Dave H I have owned 6 Fords and they are the reason I am looking at GM and Dodge. I have owned gas and diesels. I have spent more money on rebuilt Ford motors, trannys, everything except rear ends. On the 6.9 diesel I kept a spare starter behind the seat. 7.3 worse yet. I currently own a F350 with a v10. The guy my wife bought it from had all the motor work done. I had to do the tranny work. If they work for you drive them. They have never worked for me.

Tom,
 Good luck in your hunt.
Folks like the Dodge Hemi's. My son just bought a good used one. My grandson drives a Dodge diesel, he likes that too.
Regards,
 Chris

I worked for a fertilizer company thru the years, they were always ford too, and had to replace them every 3 years, if they held together that long. the boss was related to the ford dealer back then. his personal vehicles was GM. I remember having to do a lot of things to them trucks just to get them to the 3 year anniversary dates. another reason the boss told us why fords? he said they were a dime a dozen, cheaper to buy or lease, but not to keep up if kept any period of time.

There is a reason that FORD sells more TRUCKS than any other manufacturer... And they have for 40 years.  You don't get that with a bad reputation.  Im sure that every manufacturer has their share of problems , but you don't stay in business if you have a large percentage of failures.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

See that the newer trucks have 110 outlet . Dumb me . I was thinking that would be handy at "the farm" to run a saw , air compressor etc . What can these outlets be used for ? Thanks

Got to reading up on that, not so much a industrial outlet at 12.5 amps, more for like battery chargers, running lamps, running light air compressors for beach equipment, and BTW the truck has to be running. Need to run saws or major appliances buy a generator.

I bought a little Tailgaiter generator  for $88 + tax at HF. Used once so far to cut a bunch of 2 x 4's on a repair job. Worked just fine.
Next will try it on an airless sprayer to paint a 24 x 40 garage.
Really bought it to cut off pad locks at non paying renters storage buildings but haven't needed it yet.
